With nine days left until the start of the pool swimming competition at the FINA world championships, another major athlete has announced his withdrawal from the biggest meet of the year.<\/p>\n

Hungary’s Tamas Kenderesi<\/strong>, who is ranked second in the world in the 200 butterfly with his 1:54.79 from the Hungarian Open, has been diagnosed with enlarged lymph nodes, liver and spleen, according to a post on his Facebook page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The symptoms point to mononucleosis, which takes months for a full recovery. Kenderesi is the latest in a long line of athletes who have withdrawn from the world championships due to illness or injury. Hungary still has a player in the men’s 200 fly, with 2008 Olympic silver medalist Laszlo Cseh<\/strong> expected to race the event.<\/p>\n

Kenderesi won the 200 fly at last year’s Youth Olympics, and this was to mark his first senior-level elite championships. The 18-year-old now looks to recover from the illness and prepare for an Olympic appearance in Rio de Janeiro next summer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
