DAVIS, California, April 19. UC Davis recently announced that Jamie Flynn of El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills and Matthew Herman of Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo have signed National Letters of Intent (NLI) during the spring signing period to compete for the Aggies beginning in the 2007-08 season. <\/p>\n
Flynn will add depth to the women's diving roster and is expected to compete for a conference championship right away. As a high school diver, Flynn finished third at the CIF meet twice and was second once. She was also a member of the El Camino Real varsity cheerleading squad as a freshman and sophomore. As a member of the Trojan Dive Club, Flynn placed third on the 3-meter board (295.45) at SPA and second at the J.O. Regionals with a national qualifying score of 352.60. Academically, Flynn is a scholar-athlete award recipient. <\/p>\n
"Jamie is a fine young lady who has extensive diving experience," said diving coach Phil Tonne. "She has trained with two of the best programs in the Los Angeles area. Two years ago she began training with a former Olympic diver who competed for China in the 1980's. Jaime has improved tremendously since then; making the west coast nationals and finishing second on the 3-meter board at the regional meet. I feel she can come in and compete for a conference title right away." <\/p>\n
Herman brings the Aggie men's swimming team a solid distance swimmer as he has excelled in the 500-yard freestyle while also competing in the 1,000 and 1,650 free. As a junior, Herman captured his first North County Athletic league title in the 500 free en route to earning all-league first team honors for the third consecutive year. That year Herman also finished seventh at the North Coast Section Championships in the 500 free. As a member of the Marin Priate Swim Club, Herman competed in the 1,650 and the 1,000 free and was voted Most Improved during a three-year stretch. <\/p>\n
"He's got a big heart and there's no faking the times he's put up during sectionals and regionals," said men's swimming coach Pete Motekaitis. "He'll come right in and help us out tremendously in the distance events. He's got a great cardiovascular system and I'll think he'll fit in right away." <\/p>\n
