SUZAAN van Biljon highlighted the fifth night of the South African Championships by breaking a national record in the 200 individual medley. Best known for her breaststroke ability, van Biljon clocked 2:16.42 in the medley to lower Jean-Marie Neethling&#39;s standard of 2:16.64. Second place went to Jessica Pengelly, also under the old record in 2:16.46.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I am so tired and I did not think I had it in me to break the record as I (raced) this event just for fun,&quot; van Biljon said. &quot;I was far behind, but I know I can finish strong so I just tried very hard to catch up.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#39;s 100 freestyle, Gerhard Zandberg took first place with a mark of 50.38, ahead of the 50.63 by Gideon Louw. The win complemented earlier triumphs in the meet by Zandberg in the 50 backstroke and 50 free. Zandberg also qualified for finals in the 50 breaststroke, 50 butterfly and 100 backstroke. <\/p>\n<p>Wendy Trott added another title to her collection by prevailing in the 1500 free in 16:43.37.
