Hood Sectionals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The final day of the 2015 Mt. Hood Sectionals meet was a hot one, but that seemed to only encourage the swimmers to post some hot times. One of the most exciting results came out of the men&#8217;s 1500 freestyle. <strong>Jacob Ores<\/strong>, an\u00a0afternoon swimmer dominated the men\u2019s 1500, winning the event in a non-final heat. His time of 15:34.67 was enough to beat the winner of the finals heat, <strong>Dylan Bunch<\/strong>. Ores\u2019s effort was also enough to qualify him for Olympic Trials, and to break the longstanding meet record, 15:42.37 which set in 1986\u00a0by Jay Benner. Bunch was second in a time of 15:51.44. Another afternoon swimmer was third, as <strong>Liam Gately<\/strong> posted a time of 15:55.22 earlier in the day to win the bronze.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s 1500 freestyle shaped up to be a great race in the final heat, with <strong>Kira Webster<\/strong> and <strong>Amanda Richey<\/strong> battling for the win. Webster eventually overpowered Richey going into the last 400 and posted a solid 17:09.72. Richey was second in 17:14.48. In third, <strong>Lucia Davis<\/strong> got to the wall in a time of 17:17.01.<\/p>\n<p>Just before the 1500s, <strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong> won the women&#8217;s 200 IM. She led the heat\u00a0the entire race, hitting the wall in 2:17.77, and getting her Olympic Trials qualifying time in the process. She was followed by <strong>Samantha Wicks<\/strong>, who was second in a time of 2:19.04, while <strong>Hannah Holman<\/strong> was third in a time of 2:19.46.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Daniel Carr<\/strong> continued his fantastic meet with a win in the men\u2019s 200 IM. He posted a 2:05.72, which was just enough of an effort to out touch <strong>Nicholas Thorne<\/strong> who was second in a time of 2:05.94. <strong>Kyle Robrock<\/strong> was third in a time of 2:07.64.<\/p>\n<p>In the splash and dash thrill of the women\u2019s 50 freestyle, <strong>Gillian St. John<\/strong> did just enough to win\u00a0the heat and to qualify herself for Olympic Trials, hitting the wall in the exact qualifying time of a 26.19. She was followed by <strong>Eleanor Matheson<\/strong> who posted a time of 26.24, while <strong>Sierra Sexton<\/strong> was third in a time of 26.34.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s heat of the 50 freestyle saw <strong>Kyle Robrock<\/strong> win with an Olympic Trials qualifying time, coming into the wall in 23.08. He was followed by <strong>Angus Hannan<\/strong> who swam a 23.68. Bronze went to <strong>Colin Eaton<\/strong> who hit the wall in 23.75.<\/p>\n<p>For the final event of the meet, the women&#8217;s 400 medley relay proved to be an exciting race, with Tualatin Hills throwing down a fantastic race. Their team of <strong>Sara Metzsch<\/strong> (1:04.49) <strong>Blaise Wittenauer-Lee<\/strong> (1:12.19) <strong>Michelle Cefal<\/strong> (1:00.93) and <strong>Keaton Blovad<\/strong> (58.00) combined for a dominating win in a time of 4:15.61. Scottsdale Aquatic Club was second with their group of <strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong> (1:04.00) <strong>Alyson Yancy<\/strong> (1:14.70) <strong>Hannah Holman<\/strong> (1:04.24) and <strong>Victoria Toris<\/strong> (58.50) came together to post a time of 4:21.44. The bronze went to Tualatin Hills Swim Club&#8217;s B team, with the group of <strong>Emily Cook<\/strong> (1:05.76) <strong>Prudence Rooker<\/strong> (1:13.78) <strong>Megan Lam<\/strong> (1:05.37) and <strong>Celia Keany<\/strong> (58.68) for a final time of 4:23.59.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 400 medley relay was also dominated by the Tualatin Hills Swim Club with the group of <strong>Sean Calkins<\/strong> (58.96) <strong>Gabriel Rooker<\/strong> (1:04.02) <strong>Evan Carlson<\/strong> (56.37) and <strong>Liam Metzsch<\/strong> for a final time of of 3:51.97. The University of Denver Hilltoppers were second with <strong>Lane Bretschneider<\/strong> (1:01.86) <strong>Timothy Cottam<\/strong> (1:05.57) <strong>Kyle Robrock<\/strong> (55.34) and <strong>Dylan Bunch<\/strong> (53.42) for a time of 3:56.19. Third was the Phoenix Swim Club whose team of <strong>Calvin Higgins<\/strong> (1:01.99) <strong>Patrick Schramm<\/strong> (1:08.58) <strong>Ryan McCoy<\/strong> (54.58) and <strong>Angus Hannan<\/strong> (51.27) for a time of 3:56.42.<\/p>\n<p>High Point awards\u00a0in the meet were awarded to\u00a0<strong>Eleanor Matheson<\/strong> for the women&#8217;s high point, and\u00a0<strong>Daniel Carr\u00a0<\/strong>for the men.<\/p>\n<p>Top teams in the meet were the Scottsdale Aquatic Club on the women&#8217;s side, and Phoenix Swim Club for the men.
