USA’s Caitlin Leverenz<\/strong> closed out an IM sweep with a Pan American Games record in the women’s 200-meter IM.<\/p>\n

Leverenz, who won a controversial victory in the 400-meter IM after local favorite Ellen Overholt drew a gold-medal disqualification<\/a>, set her second Pan American Games record of the day with a 2:10.51 for the gold in the 200 IM tonight.<\/p>\n

That swim beat her prelim record of 2:11.04, and pushed her closer to Melanie Margalis<\/strong> (2:10.26) for fourth in the world rankings.<\/p>\n

USA’s Meghan Small<\/strong> touched out Canada’s Sydney Pickrem<\/strong> for silver, 2:11.26 to 2:11.29. \u00a0That time cleared Small’s personal best of 2:11.83 and moved her up to seventh in the world.<\/p>\n

Small’s time likely will be recognized as a FINA World Junior Record, faster than the 2:12.29 pending from Hiroko Makino from April currently on FINA’s list<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Those records are well off the true fastest times by the fastest teens in swimming history. \u00a0Ye Shiwen<\/strong> at 15 has a 2:08.90 to her credit at the 2011 FINA World Championships.<\/p>\n

Pickrem had set the Canadian record in prelims with a sixth-ranked time of 2:11.16.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s Joanna Maranhao<\/strong> (2:12.39), Canada’s Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson<\/strong> (2:14.06), Argentina’s Virginia Bardach<\/strong> (2:15.45), Brazil’s Gabriella Goncalves<\/strong> (2:17.02) and Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson<\/strong> (2:18.02) finished fourth through eighth in the A final.<\/p>\n

Argentina’s Florencia Perotti<\/strong> topped the B final with a time of 2:17.65, while Peru’s McKenna De Bever<\/strong> took second in 2:18.49.<\/p>\n

Mexico’s Arantxa Medina<\/strong> (2:18.82), Venezuela’s Mercedes Toledo<\/strong> (2:22.06), Cayman Islands’ Lara Butler<\/strong> (2:24.64) and Honduras’ Karen Vilorio<\/strong> (2:24.72) also competed in the B final.<\/p>\n
