{"id":144075,"date":"2015-07-18T09:00:11","date_gmt":"2015-07-18T16:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=144075"},"modified":"2015-07-16T14:53:20","modified_gmt":"2015-07-16T21:53:20","slug":"abbey-weitzeil-ryan-hoffer-100-free-high-school-all-americans-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/abbey-weitzeil-ryan-hoffer-100-free-high-school-all-americans-list\/","title":{"rendered":"100 Freestyle High School All-Americans Led By Abbey Weitzeil, Ryan Hoffer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another national high school record from <strong>Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> led a strong field of high school All-Americans on the girls side, while <strong>Ryan Hoffer<\/strong> barely earned his second national No. 1 ranking with a strong swim to lead the boys\u2019 rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Our 11-part NISCA All-American Showcase is highlighting each event on the high school swimming schedule, and <i>Swimming World<\/i> is proud to partner with the National Interscholatic Swim Coaches Association to provide a global spotlight on high school swimming in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Weitzeil broke the 100 free record four times at the California Interscholastic Federation\u2019s Southern Section meet, first swimming a 47.53 in the 100 free prelims then a 47.42 leading off Saugus High School\u2019s 400 free relay. In finals, Weitzeil took the record even further with a 47.33 to win the 100 free, then a blazing 47.09 on the 400 free relay leadoff leg.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abbey Weitzeil\u2019s 47.09 10 freestyle<\/strong><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" id=\"tout_embed\" src=\"\/\/www.tout.com\/embed\/touts\/a99l9r\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Weitzeil\u2019s best time is 46.29, but her national record remains a major benchmark for high school swimmers to reach in the coming years.<\/p>\n<p>As was the case in the 50 free, Carmel High School posted the second- and third-fastest times in the nation in the 100 free. <strong>Amy Bilquist<\/strong> won the 100 free with a 48.36 at the Indiana state championships, while <strong>Veronica Burchill&#8217;s<\/strong> 48.48 was swum as a leadoff on Carmel&#8217;s <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/carmel-high-school-swimmings-29th-indiana-state-title-ties-time-national-record\/ target=_blank>historic 400 freestyle relay<\/a>. She was followed by three others under 49 seconds: Santa Margarita&#8217;s <strong>Katie McLaughlin<\/strong> (48.69), Fossil Ridge High School\u2019s <strong>Lauren Pitzer<\/strong> (48.72) and <strong>Caroline McTaggart<\/strong> of Holton Arms School (48.75).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls 100 Freestyle National Top 8 <span style=\"color: red;\">(Mobile users: Click the &#8220;+&#8221; to expand content)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<p>Hoffer, a sophomore at Chaparral High School, was the class of the field in the boys 100 freestyle \u2013 but not by much.
