{"id":144056,"date":"2015-07-17T09:00:17","date_gmt":"2015-07-17T16:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=144056"},"modified":"2015-07-17T12:39:03","modified_gmt":"2015-07-17T19:39:03","slug":"girls-100-fly-national-record-high-school-all-americans-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/girls-100-fly-national-record-high-school-all-americans-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Girls 100 Fly National Record Battle Highlights High School All-Americans List"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the exciting highlights of the 2014-2015 high school swimming season was the battle for ownership of the 100 butterfly national high school record, with some of the fastest times ever swum by teenagers posted as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Our 11-part NISCA All-American Showcase is highlighting each event on the high school swimming schedule, and <i>Swimming World<\/i> is proud to partner with the National Interscholatic Swim Coaches Association to provide a global spotlight on high school swimming in the United States.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katie McLaughlin<\/strong>, a senior at Santa Margarita Catholic High School, came into the season as the national record holder with a 51.78. <strong>Beata Nelson<\/strong>, representing Verona\/Mt. Hebron Co-Op in Wisconsin, was the first record setter in the event this season at her championships in November.<\/p>\n<p>Nelson kicked things off with a blazing 51.70, beating McLaughlin\u2019s record of 51.78 from May 2014. It was Nelson\u2019s first time under 52 seconds, and was also a USA Swimming national age group record.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beata Nelson\u2019s 51.70 100 butterfly<\/strong><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GMnDzCurwgU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In February at the Kentucky high school championships, <strong>Grace Oglesby<\/strong> of North Oldham High School threw down a 51.75 to put a scare into Nelson\u2019s new record. It also marked her first time under 52 seconds, beating her previous lifetime best of 52.14 from the prelims.<\/p>\n<p>McLaughlin took to the blocks at the California Interscholastic Federation\u2019s Southern Section championships with the goal of getting her record back. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-mclaughlin-blasts-100-fly-national-high-school-record\/\" target=\"_blank\">She accomplished the goal with a 51.53<\/a>, which gets her closer to Natalie Coughlin\u2019s USA Swimming national age group record of 51.18.<\/p>\n<p>Those three topped the 100 fly All-American list, with a 52.26 from Carmel High School&#8217;s Veronica Burchill and a 52.43 from Acalanes High School\u2019s <strong>Brittany Ulsinger<\/strong> to round out the sub-53 swims of the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Girls 100 Butterfly National Top 8 <span style=\"color: red;\">(Mobile users: Click the &#8220;+&#8221; to expand content)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<p><strong>Alex Valente<\/strong> made some big improvements in the 100 butterfly, nearly joining an exclusive club of high school swimmers to post a time in the 45-second range. Valente wrapped up his time at Dos Pueblos High School with a 46.00 at the California Interscholastic Federation\u2019s Southern Section meet, threatening Joe Schooling\u2019s national high school record of 45.52.<\/p>\n<p>Though he had raced the 100 breaststroke in previous years, <strong>Andrew Seliskar<\/strong> took on the 100 butterfly in his senior year because his team at Thomas Jefferson High School For Science and Technology was flush with breaststrokers. Seliskar just missed the top ranking in the event with a 46.13 at the Virginia 5A state high school championships, dropping four tenths off his lifetime best in one meet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Xinagfei Xie<\/strong> of Saratoga High School placed third in the national rankings with a 46.75 to also break 46 seconds.
