Women’s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

USA’s Caitlin Leverenz<\/strong> wasted little time getting the fast swimming going again this morning during the women’s 400-meter IM prelims at the 2015 Pan American Games.<\/p>\n

Leverenz unleashed a 4:37.74 this morning during prelims to break the Pan American Games record. \u00a0Joanne Malar<\/strong> set the previous record with a 4:38.46 16 years ago.<\/p>\n

The swim also vaulted Leverenz from 14th in the world with a 4:38.35 from the Arena Pro Swim Series up to 11th in the rankings.<\/p>\n

Canada picked up the next two seeds into the A final as Emily Overholt<\/strong> (4:39.84) and Sydney Pickrem<\/strong> (4:40.77) went 1-2 in the second heat. Both have been faster this year with Pickrem ranked 16th in world with a 4:39.26 and Overholt ranked 18th with a 4:39.47.<\/p>\n

USA’s Katie Mills<\/strong> (4:41.05), Brazil’s Joanna Maranhao<\/strong> (4:45.28), Argentina’s Virginia Bardach<\/strong> (4:48.96), Mexico’s Natalia Jaspeado<\/strong> (4:51.69) and Mexico’s Moniika Gonzalez-Hermosillo<\/strong> (4:52.24) also will compete in the A final.<\/p>\n

Argentina’s Florencia Perotti<\/strong> (4:52.60), Brazil’s Gabrielle Goncalves<\/strong> (4:55.65), Honduras’ Karen Vilorio<\/strong> (5:03.69), Peru’s Andrea Cedron<\/strong> (5:07.00) and Panama’s Maria Far<\/strong> (5:10.85) will swim in the B final.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

Team USA picked up the top two seeds in the men’s 400-meter IM at the 2015 Pan American Games.<\/p>\n

Max Williamson<\/strong> (4:17.92) and Michael Weiss<\/strong> (4:17.96) pushed each other in heat 2 into the top two heats.<\/p>\n

Weiss shook off what proved to be an anxiety-ridden evening last night when he initially caused a relay disqualification for Team USA in the men’s 800-meter free relay by having his fingers taped together<\/a>.<\/p>\n

An appeal by Team USA was successful late last night with the U.S. regaining its silver medal.<\/p>\n

This morning it became obvious that Pan American Games officials had approved Weiss’ use of the tape as he had it on his fingers again this morning during the 400 IM heats.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Luke Reilly<\/strong> claimed the third seed in 4:19.44, while Brazil’s Thiago Pereira<\/strong> is in place to race for a threepeat with a fourth-seeded 4:19.92.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s Brandonn Almeida<\/strong> (4:20.59), Venezuela’s Carlos Omana<\/strong> (4:20.84), Ecuador’s Tomas Peribonio<\/strong> (4:21.07) and Canada’s Alec Page<\/strong> (4:21.46) also will swim for the title in the A final.<\/p>\n

Venezuela’s Juan Sequera<\/strong> (4:25.69), Argentina’s Esteban Paz<\/strong> (4:27.37), Mexico’s Juan Del Pino<\/strong> (4:28.37), Puerto Rico’s Christian Bayo<\/strong> (4:28.54), El Salvador’s Rafael Alfaro<\/strong> (4:29.81), Paraguay’s Matias Lopez<\/strong> (4:30.27), Costa Rica’s Esteban Araya<\/strong> (4:31.52) and Cuba’s Luis Vega<\/strong> (4:32.86) comprise the B final field.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

USA’s Kelsi Worrell<\/strong> crushed the Pan American Games record in the women’s 100-meter fly with a world-class effort.<\/p>\n

Worrell uncorked a blistering time of 57.24 to blast the previous Games mark of 58.59 set by Claire Donahue<\/strong> back in 2011.<\/p>\n

The swim shot Worrell up to third in the world rankings this year, and into 14th all time in the event’s history.<\/p>\n

That’s a personal best by exactly a second for Worrell, lowering her previous top time of 58.24 from the Mesa stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Katerine Savard<\/strong> hit the wall second in the morning with a 58.34, just off her 18th-ranked season best of 58.18. \u00a0Canada’s Noemie Thomas<\/strong>, ranked 16th in the world with a 58.08, \u00a0qualified third in 58.61.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s Daynara De Paula<\/strong> (58.70), Brazil’s Daiene Dias<\/strong> (59.16), Bahamas’ Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace<\/strong> (59.33), USA’s Gia Dalesandro<\/strong> (59.83) and Colombia’s Jessica Camposano<\/strong> (1:00.85) qualified fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n

Costa Rica’s Marie Meza<\/strong> (1:01.01), Mexico’s Ana Revilak<\/strong> (1:01.25), Venezuela’s Isabella Paez<\/strong> (1:01.27), Argentina’s Belen Diaz<\/strong> (1:01.53), Peru’s McKenna De Bever<\/strong> (1:01.62), Mexico’s Diana Luna<\/strong> (1:01.85), Colombia’s Carolina Colorado<\/strong> (1:02.36) and Puerto Rico’s Tereysa Lehnertz<\/strong> (1:02.43) will compete in the B final.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

USA’s Giles Smith<\/strong> led a host of 52-second performers this morning in the men’s 100-meter fly at the Pan American Games.<\/p>\n

Smith clocked a top time of 52.13 to move to 20th in the world rankings as he eyes Kaio Almeida’s<\/strong> 2007 meet record of 52.05 in finals.<\/p>\n

Peru’s Mauricio Fiol<\/strong> claimed the second seed with a 52.25, while Argentina’s Santiago Grassi<\/strong> qualified third in 52.34.<\/p>\n

Mexico’s Long Gutierrez<\/strong> (52.57), Venezuela’s Albert Subirats<\/strong> (52.60), Canada’s Santo Condorelli<\/strong> (52.67), Brazil’s Arthur Mendes<\/strong> (52.85) and USA’s Eugene Godsoe<\/strong> (52.89) grabbed the other transfer spots in the A final.<\/p>\n

Guatemala’s Luis Martinez<\/strong> (52.90), Canada’s Coleman Allen<\/strong> (53.23), Paraguay’s Ben Hockin<\/strong> (53.63), Argentina’s Marcos Barale<\/strong> (53.73), Trinidad and Tobago’s Dylan Carter<\/strong> (53.89), Colombia’s Esnaider Reales<\/strong> (54.42), Puerto Rico’s Andrew Torres<\/strong> (54.69) and Honduras’ Allan Gutierrez<\/strong> (55.52) made up the B final field.<\/p>\n

Women’s 800 free relay<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gillian Ryan<\/strong> provided a strong anchor leg to push Team USA into the top seed going into the women’s 800-meter free relay finals at the Pan American Games.<\/p>\n

Courtney Harnish<\/strong> (2:01.25), Amanda Weir<\/strong> (2:02.52), Kylie Stewart<\/strong> (2:02.49) and Ryan (1:59.26) led the way into finals with an 8:05.52.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson<\/strong> (2:01.60), Alyson Ackman<\/strong> (2:01.33), Brittany Maclean<\/strong> (2:00.10) and Tabitha Baumann<\/strong> (2:03.03) qualified second in 8:06.06.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s Jessica Cavalheiro<\/strong> (2:00.78), Bruna Veronez<\/strong> (2:02.94), Gabrielle Goncalves<\/strong> (2:08.58) and Larissa Martins<\/strong> (2:07.57) snared the third seed in 8:19.87.<\/p>\n

Mexico (8:22.04), Peru (8:30.61) and Venezuela (8:33.91) also put up clean times to make finals.<\/p>\n
