Canada remained on fire as the locals relegated Team USA to second for only the second time in Pan American Games history in the women’s 400-meter free relay.<\/p>\n

The foursome of Sandrine Mainville<\/strong> (54.43), Michelle Williams<\/strong> (54.42), Katerine Savard<\/strong> (54.53) and Chantal Van Landeghem<\/strong> (53.42) overcame a battle with the Stars and Stripes to win in a Pan American Games record time of 3:36.80.<\/p>\n

That performance downed the preliminary mark of 3:37.28 set by Team USA this morning. It also broke the Canadian record of 3:37.09 from 2013.<\/p>\n

USA’s Allison Schmitt<\/strong> (54.46), Amanda Weir<\/strong> (54.79), Madison Kennedy<\/strong> (53.89) and Natalie Coughlin<\/strong> (53.87) settled for silver with a time of 3:37.01 just .21 seconds back, and under their prelim time.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s Larissa Martins<\/strong> (54.67), Graciele Herrmann<\/strong> (54.72), Etiene Medeiros<\/strong> (53.99) and Daynara De Paula<\/strong> (54.01) took bronze in 3:37.39.<\/p>\n

Venezuela (3:46.24), Colombia (3:47.30), Mexico (3:47.65), Peru (3:52.430 and Jamaica (3:56.01) also competed.<\/p>\n
