In one of the closest finishes of the night, Brazil’s Leonardo De Deus<\/strong> edged Peru’s Mauricio Fiol<\/strong> in the men’s 200-meter fly at the 2015 Pan American Games.<\/p>\n

De Deus threw down a winning time of 1:55.01, while Fiol picked up silver in a 1:55.15. \u00a0Both times were under Kaio Almeida’s<\/strong> Games record of 1:55.45 from 2007.<\/p>\n

The swim shot De Deus to seventh in the world rankings, while Fiol moved up to eighth. \u00a0That’s another Peruvian record for Fiol after he demolished the previous mark of 1:58.29 with a 1:56.81 in prelims.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Zack Chetrat<\/strong> rounded out the podium with a third-place time of 1:56.90. That’s a Canadian record, beating Stefan Hirniak’s<\/strong> 1:57.01 from 2010.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Alec Page<\/strong> (1:58.01), Brazil’s Almeida (1:58.51), Puerto Rico’s Andrew Torres<\/strong> (1:59.37), Venezuela’s Marcos Lavado<\/strong> (1:59.59) and USA’s Bobby Bollier<\/strong> (1:59.89) closed out the rest of the championship field.<\/p>\n

Mexico’s Long Gutierrez<\/strong> won the consolation heat in a time of 2:00.09, while Colombia’s Esnaider Reales<\/strong> (2:00.79) and Andres Montoya<\/strong> (2:00.93) finished second and third in the heat.<\/p>\n

Cuba’s Lazaro Vergara<\/strong> (2:02.30), Mexico’s Jose Martinez<\/strong> (2:02.39), USA’s Ty Stewart<\/strong> (2:02.59), Paraguay’s Max Abreu<\/strong> (2:06.91) and Virgin Islands’ Matt Mays<\/strong> (2:09.74) rounded out the B final.<\/p>\n
