Women’s 100 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

USA’s Natalie Coughlin<\/strong> kicked off the morning with a sizzling Pan American Games record in the women’s 100-meter free at the 2015 Pan American Games.<\/p>\n

Coughlin raced her way to a 53.85 to top the heat, and cleared Amanda Weir’s<\/strong> Games record time of 54.46 from 12 years ago in 2003 in Santo Domingo.<\/p>\n

That’s Coughlin’s first time under 54 seconds this year, bettering her 19th-ranked season best of 54.18 from the Mesa stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series. \u00a0She moved up to 10th in the world with her swim this morning.<\/p>\n

Bahamas’ Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace<\/strong> turned in a swift time of 54.00 for the second seed heading into finals. That’s just off her 13th-ranked season best of 53.97 from the Monte Carlo stop of the Mare Nostrum event.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Chantal Van Landeghem<\/strong> checked in with a third-seeded time of 54.31, while USA’s Weir snared the fourth seed in 54.36.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s Larissa Martins<\/strong> (55.01), Canada’s Michelle Williams<\/strong> (55.29), Puerto Rico’s Vanessa Garcia<\/strong> (55.45) and Brazil’s Graciele Herrmann<\/strong> (55.54) comprise the rest of the A final.<\/p>\n

Mexico’s Liliana Ibanez<\/strong> (55.80), Colombia’s Isabella Arcila<\/strong> (56.12), Jamaica’s Alia Atkinson<\/strong> (56.29), Venezuela’s Arlene Semeco<\/strong> (56.56), Argentina’s Aixa Triay<\/strong> (56.82), Cuba’s Elisbet Gamez<\/strong> (56.94), Suriname’s Chinyere Pigot<\/strong> (57.29) and Peru’s McKenna De Bever<\/strong> (57.40) made up the B final.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Argentina’s Federico Grabich<\/strong> put together the best time in the morning to take prelims of the men’s 100-meter free.<\/p>\n

Grabich clocked a time of 48.60 to move to 16th in the world rankings as he was easily the fastest swimmer this morning.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Santo Condorelli<\/strong> raced his way to the second seed in 48.88 with Brazil’s Marcelo Chierighini<\/strong> claiming third in 48.92 as the only other sub-49.<\/p>\n

Venezuela’s Cristian Quintero<\/strong> (49.07), Canada’s Yuri Kisil<\/strong> (49.07), Trinidad and Tobago’s Dylan Carter<\/strong> (49.29), Suriname’s Renzo Tjon-A-Joe<\/strong> (49.47) and Brazil’s Matheus Santana<\/strong> (49.52) also grabbed spots in the A final.<\/p>\n

The big surprise is that the American failed to make the championship heat.<\/p>\n

USA’s Darian Townsend<\/strong> (49.88) and Cullen Jones<\/strong> (50.09) finished 10th and 11th in the morning to make the B final.<\/p>\n

Cayman Islands’ Brett Fraser<\/strong> (49.58), Paraguay’s Ben Hocking<\/strong> (50.14), Saint Lucia’s Jordan Augier<\/strong> (50.82), Mexico’s Luis Campos<\/strong> (51.29), Aruba’s Jordy Groters<\/strong> (51.71) and Honduras’ Allan Gutierrez<\/strong> (52.16) also will battle in the consolation heat.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

USA’s Katie Mills<\/strong> powered her way through the 2:09 barrier for the first time with a 2:08.89 to earn the top seed in the women’s 200-meter fly.<\/p>\n

That bettered her previous lifetime best of 2:09.63 from the Spring Spanish Championships in March.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Audrey Lacroix<\/strong>, the fourth-ranked swimmer in the world with a 2:07.63 this year, cruised her way to the second seed in 2:10.33. \u00a0Venezuela’s Andreina Pinto<\/strong> put up a 2:10.98 for the third seed.<\/p>\n

Argentina’s Virginia Bardach<\/strong> (2:12.31), Venezuela’s Isabella Paez<\/strong> (2:12.63), Brazil’s Joanna Maranhao<\/strong> (2:12.64), Guatemala’s Valerie Gruest<\/strong> (2:13.87) and Mexico’s Diana Luna<\/strong> (2:14.21) also snagged lanes in the championship heat.<\/p>\n

Colombia’s Jessica Camposano<\/strong> (2:14.35), Brazil’s Manuella Lyrio<\/strong> (2:15.55), USA’s Kylie Stewart<\/strong> (2:16.22), Panama’s Maria Far<\/strong> (2:18.57), Puerto Rico’s Tereysa Lehnertz<\/strong> (2:18.57), Chile’s Estefania Urzua<\/strong> (2:19.23), Cayman Islands’ Lara Butler<\/strong> (2:22.81) and Jamaica’s Trudian Patrick<\/strong> (2:24.26) will compete in the B final.<\/p>\n

It wasn’t that exciting of a prelim competition considering just 17 swimmers actually raced. \u00a0Aruba’s Dan Van Den Berg<\/strong> took 17th in 2:26.04 with Canada’s Noemie Thomas<\/strong> scratching prelims.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peru’s Mauricio Fiol<\/strong> turned in a sizzling time in heat 2 of the men’s 200-meter fly for the top seed.<\/p>\n

Fiol clocked a top time of 1:56.81 to crush his Peruvian record of 1:58.29 set at the 2013 World championships in Barcelona.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s Leonardo De Deus<\/strong>, ranked seventh in the world with a 1:55.19 from the Maria Lenk Trophy meet, eased his way to the second seed in 1:58.44. \u00a0USA’s Bobby Bollier<\/strong> snared the third seed in 1:58.61.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Alec Page<\/strong> (1:58.82), Venezuela’s Marcos Lavado<\/strong> (1:59.08), Brazil’s Kaio Almeida<\/strong> (1:59.24), Canada’s Zack Chetrat<\/strong> (1:59.39) and Puerto Rico’s Andrew Torres<\/strong> (1:59.83) all broke 2:00 to make the A final.<\/p>\n

Mexico’s Long Gutierrez<\/strong> (2:00.30), Colombia’s Esnaider Reales<\/strong> (2:01.19), Colombia’s Andres Montoya<\/strong> (2:01.73), Cuba’s Lazaro Vergara<\/strong> (2:02.43), USA’s Ty Stewart<\/strong> (2:02.68), Mexico’s Jose Martinez<\/strong> (2:03.15), Paraguay’s Max Abreu<\/strong> (2:05.61) and Virgin Islands’ Matt Mays<\/strong> (2:07.90) will swim in the B final.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 free relay<\/strong><\/p>\n

Team USA continued to dominate relays at the Pan American Games as the Stars and Stripes smashed its own meet record in the women’s 400-meter free relay.<\/p>\n

Katie Meili<\/strong> (55.51), Allison Schmitt<\/strong> (53.82), Madison Kennedy<\/strong> (53.92) and Kelsi Worrell<\/strong> (54.03) smoked prelims with a top time of 3:37.28. \u00a0That effort smashed the previous mark of 3:40.66 set by the U.S. in 2011, and finished more than five seconds ahead of Canada.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Sandrine Mainville<\/strong> (54.89), Alyson Ackman<\/strong> (55.68), Katerine Savard<\/strong> (55.40) and Dominique Bouchard<\/strong> (56.86) took the second seed in 3:42.83.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s Daiane Oliveira<\/strong> (56.93), Manuella Lyrio<\/strong> (56.95), Etiene Medeiros<\/strong> (56.17) and Daynara De Paula<\/strong> (56.68) put up a third-seeded 3:46.73.<\/p>\n

Colombia (3:49.61), Venezuela (3:49.89), Mexico (3:51.61), Peru (3:54.44) and Jamaica (3:59.09) also competed in prelims.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 free relay<\/strong><\/p>\n

With just seven teams competing, it was all about posturing this morning at the men’s 400-meter free relay, and Brazil did just that.<\/p>\n

Joao De Lucca<\/strong> (49.04), Nicolas Oliveira<\/strong> (48.78), Thiago Pereira<\/strong> (50.25) and Bruno Fratus<\/strong> (49.80) turned in a swift top seed of 3:17.87.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Markus Thormeyer<\/strong> (49.82), Karl Krug<\/strong> (49.37), Evan Van Moerkerke<\/strong> (49.64) and Stefan Milosevic<\/strong> (49.94) qualified second in 3:18.77.<\/p>\n

USA’s Josh Schneider<\/strong> (49.82), Michael Klueh<\/strong> (49.67), Eugene Godsoe<\/strong> (50.12) and Michael Weiss<\/strong> (49.33) earned the third seed in 3:18.94.<\/p>\n

Argentina (3:23.00), Venezuela (3:24.81), Paraguay (3:36.52) and Peru (3:36.97) will also compete in the finale.<\/p>\n
