LEWISBURG, Pennsylvania, March 23. YORK Suburban's men easily outdistanced the competition in the 2007 Pennsylvania Class AA Championships, winning the meet by just under 100 points.<\/p>\n
Team Scores<\/b><\/p>\n
York Suburban, despite losing the opening 200 medley relay, completely overpowered the field with a mix of star power and depth, scoring 221 points. Springfield Township took second place honors with 138.5 points while Dover edged out Hershey for third with 120 points.<\/p>\n
200 medley relay<\/b><\/p>\n
Springfield Township's foursome of Ben Clark, Lyle De la Rosa, Jesse Bregman and Hugh Pedley blew past York Suburban in the freestyle leg, taking the event with a 1:36.77. Springfield's time erased the former AA state record set at the 2006 state meet by Radnor (1:36.96). York Suburban, despite a 22.94 butterfly leg by Harry Foster, touched the wall second in 1:37.01. Franklin placed third with a time of 1:38.23.<\/p>\n
200 freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
Trevor Scheid of Shady Side Academy swam his own race, and as a result, he picked up a state record. Scheid took out his first 100 in 48.45 and trailed behind Dover's Jonathan Rubritz by over a second. Scheid, however, took back his final 100 in 50.58 and finished in a time of 1:39.02. <\/p>\n
Scheid's time eclipsed the former AA mark set by Nathan Rebuck of Westmont Hilltop High School in 1998 (1:40.90). Rubritz touched the wall second in 1:40.60 while York Suburban's Kevin Marsteller finished third with a time of 1:41.48.<\/p>\n
200 I.M.<\/b><\/p>\n
Defending champion Zack Phillips successfully defended his 2006 title, winning the 200 I.M. in 1:53.35. York Suburban's Chris Manning claimed a second-place finish with a 1:56.73 and Franklin's Nate Frye swam a 1:57.20 time and placed third.<\/p>\n
50 freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
Matt Kolojejchick of Bishop Hoban topped the 50 freestyle field with a winning time of 21.20. Kyle King of Hershey, the top qualifier coming into finals, finished second in 21.32. Albert Augustine from Faith Christian Academy took third in 21.51.<\/p>\n
100 butterfly<\/b><\/p>\n
Mike Seiferth, a Hampton senior, blasted through the first 50 in 23.53 before finishing in a winning time of 50.26. Kyle Shoemaker of Saucon Valley touched out the event's top qualifier in a second-place time of 50.94. Foster finished third with a 50.95 time.<\/p>\n
200 freestyle relay<\/b><\/p>\n
Springfield Township's relay grouping of Clark, Ben Fallon, Pedley and Bregman touched out the Muhlenberg relay with a winning time of 1:27.34. Muhlenberg finished with a second-place time of 1:27.48 while Franklin took the bronze in 1:28.22.<\/p>\n
"Our school won three events today," Clark said. "Springfield has never won a state championship in any sport, so we did something that was never done before." <\/p>\n
100 freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
The second day of competition started out with a bang, as Scheid outswam the 100 freestyle field by over a second (45.78). Foster took second with a 46.94 while Nick Hein of Danville captured third place with a 47.23 time.<\/p>\n
500 freestyle<\/b><\/p>\n
Phillips won his second individual event of the meet with a win in the 500 freestyle (4:34.09). Jack Zierenberg from Hampton touched the wall second in 4:40.94 while Mars Area's Jeff Gavin snared the bronze medal with a 4:45.72 swim in finals.<\/p>\n
100 backstroke<\/b><\/p>\n
Marsteller picked up a win for York Suburban with a victory in the 100 backstroke, taking the gold medal in a 52.23 time. Jon Kofmehl of Richland swam a 52.65 and took second while Eric Naylor of Dover came in third with a 53.01 time.<\/p>\n
100 breaststroke<\/b><\/p>\n
Another 2006 record fell as Shoemaker won the 100 breaststroke in a 57.53 time. John Cremo of Mechanicsburg set the record at last year's state meet with a 57.86 time. Derek Yeager of Millersburg touched out Kolojejchick with a second-place time of 58.52. Kolojejchick took third with a 58.66.<\/p>\n
400 freestyle relay<\/b><\/p>\n
York Suburban completely controlled the tempo for the final relay, as the foursome of Ben Appleby, Manning, Foster and Marsteller finished first with a 3:11.28 time. Hershey finished second with a 3:14.17 while Muhlenberg clocked a 3:15.56 and placed third.<\/p>\n
Diving Results<\/b><\/p>\n
Justin Duncan from South Park snared diving's top spot with a 404.95 score. Two Tunkhannock divers rounded out the top three. Kenny Alguire placed second with a 387.15 score while Tommy Kolodzieski scored 378.00 points and took third.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
