Melanie Margalis put on a show during the first evening of finals at Speedo Sectionals in Athens, Georgia. Competing in the pool in which she has trained for five years, four of which spent as a student-athlete at the University of Georgia, Margalis won the 200 IM in 2:10.26 \u2212 the fourth-best time in the world this year \u2212 before coming back less than 30 minutes later to take the 50 free title, touching in 25.79.<\/p>\n

After the session, Margalis sat down with Swimming World’s<\/i> David Rieder to discuss her performances and to look ahead to next month’s World Championships. Margalis spoke about her improvements in the event over the past year, why she entered the 50 free in the first place, her emotions as Georgia’s women swam to a runner-up finish at NCAAs this year, and what she expects in her first trip to the World Championships.<\/p>\n
