MELBOURNE, Australia, March 19. CHINA pocketed a pair of gold medals during the first day of finals diving competition at the FINA World Championships in Melbourne, Australia.<\/p>\n

Men's Three-Meter Synchro<\/b>
\nChina's duo of Qin Kai and Wang Feng completely crushed the competition in the three-meter synchro event with a top tally of 458.76 points. Heading into the final dive, the Chinese were safely ahead by 13.65 points, but went big anyway. They ended the event with an exclamation point when they ripped a reverse 2.5 somersault with 1.5 twists for 95.55 points to win by nearly 40 points.<\/p>\n

Canada's team of Alexandre Despatie and Arturo Miranda picked up silver with 418.92 points, while Germany's Tobias Schellenberg and Andreas Wels garnered bronze with 414.54 points. The U.S. duo of Troy Dumais and Mitch Richeson finished just outside of the podium with a fourth-place 414.24 points.<\/p>\n

Women's Tower Synchro<\/b>
\nChina picked up another gold as Jia Tong and Chen Ruolin won by nearly 40 points as well with 361.32 for the top spot. The Chinese nailed their biggest dive (backward 2.5 somersaults with 1.5 twists) with an 85.68 tally in the final round.<\/p>\n

Australia's team of Briony Cole and Melissa Wu providing the partisan crowd something to cheer for with a silver-winning tally of 324.00, while Germany's Annett Gamm and Nora Subschinski took bronze with 306.63 points.<\/p>\n

The U.S. team of Mary Dunnichay and Haley Ishimatsu finished fifth with 298.20 points.<\/p>\n
