Women’s 50 breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

A pair of swimmers lit up the pool with sub 31s this morning in the sprint breaststroke.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Natalia Ivaneeva<\/strong> raced her way to the top seed in 30.88 to move to 10th in the world rankings. \u00a0Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Mariia Liver<\/strong> snared the second seed in 30.91 to stand 11th in the world now.<\/p>\n

Japan’s Mina Matsushima<\/strong> qualified third in 31.00 to tie for 16th in the world, while Italy’s Martina Carraro<\/strong> snared the fourth seed in 31.18.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Ilaria Scarcella<\/strong> (31.28), South Korea’s Hyejin Kim<\/strong> (31.31), USA’s Emma Reaney<\/strong> (31.37) and USA’s Lilly King<\/strong> (31.40) claimed the rest of the top eight spots.<\/p>\n

Ireland’s Fiona Doyle<\/strong> (31.57), South Africa’s Tara-Lynn Nicholas<\/strong> (31.65), Great Britain’s Kathryn Johnstone<\/strong> (32.00), Ireland’s Sycerika McMahon<\/strong> (32.02), Australia’s Jessica Hansen<\/strong> (32.03), Germany’s Laura Simon<\/strong> (32.04), Sweden’s Jessica Eriksson<\/strong> (32.14) and Russia’s Daria Deeva<\/strong> (32.25) closed out the semi field.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Team USA went 1-3 in the men’s sprint free qualifying.<\/p>\n

Seth Stubblefield<\/strong> led the entire field with a time of 22.41, while teammate Paul Powers<\/strong> checked in third in with a 22.58.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Oleg Tikhobaev<\/strong> (22.57) and Japan’s Kosuke Matsui<\/strong> (22.62) snared the second and fourth seeds.<\/p>\n

Brazil’s Henrique Martins<\/strong>, a double winner with victories in the 50 fly and 100 free, put up a 22.63 for the fifth seed.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Giuseppe Guttuso<\/strong> (22.73), Russia’s Ivan Kuzmenko<\/strong> (22.82) and New Zealand’s Daniel Hunter<\/strong> (22.85) qualified sixth through eighth.<\/p>\n

Belarus’ Yauhen Tsurkin<\/strong> (22.86), Belarus’ Anton Latkin<\/strong> (22.87), France’s Yonel Govindin<\/strong> (22.90), Poland’s Filip Wypych<\/strong> (22.90), South Korea’s Joonmo Bae<\/strong> (22.95), South Africa’s Luke Pendock<\/strong> (22.96), South Africa’s Doug Erasmus<\/strong> (22.96) and Ukraine’s Bogdan Plavin<\/strong> (22.97) also made semis.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

A pair of 2:10s went up on the board this morning in the women’s 200-meter fly.<\/p>\n

USA’s Hali Flickinger<\/strong> led the way with a time of 2:10.21, while Italy’s Stefania Pirozzi<\/strong> placed as close of a second as you can with a 2:10.22.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Jessica Strydom<\/strong> (2:12.06), Japan’s Misuzu Yabu<\/strong> (2:12.69), USA’s Emma Nunn<\/strong> (2:12.81), Japan’s Yuna Kikuchi<\/strong> (2:12.86), China’s Zhou Yilin<\/strong> (2:12.93) and Italy’s Alessia Polieri<\/strong> (2:12.96) clocked in with 2:12s to also make semis.<\/p>\n

New Zealand’s Helena Gasson<\/strong> (2:13.34), Germany’s Tina Rueger<\/strong> (2:13.70), Israel’s Keren Siebner<\/strong> (2:14.23), Australia’s Tianni Gilmour<\/strong> (2:14.28), Czech’s Barbora Zavadova<\/strong> (2:14.99), Russia’s Mariia Arseneva<\/strong> (2:15.28), Finland’s Tanja Kylliainen<\/strong> (2:15.34) and New Zealand’s Samantha Lee<\/strong> (2:15.55) comprise the rest of the semifinalist field.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Russia’s Rozaliya Nasretdinova<\/strong> put up the top time in what looks to be a loaded field in the 50 free.<\/p>\n

Nasretdinova clocked a 25.28, and has a bit of time to drop to catch up to Aleksandra Gerasimenya’s<\/strong> 2013 meet record of 24.48.<\/p>\n

Ukraine’s Darya Stepanyuk<\/strong> qualified second in 25.33 with Austria’s Birgit Koschischek<\/strong> (25.38) and Australia’s Holly Barratt<\/strong> (25.39) earning third and fourth.<\/p>\n

USA’s Madeline Locus<\/strong> (25.46), Russia’s Elizaveta Bazarova<\/strong> (25.50), USA’s Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> (25.57) and Japan’s Aya Sato<\/strong> (25.58) claimed the fifth through eighth seeds.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Aglaia Pezzato<\/strong> (25.65), Sweden’s Josefin Lindkvist<\/strong> (25.65), Australia’s Ami Matsuo<\/strong> (25.69), Canada’s Hannah Riordan<\/strong> (25.70), Canada’s Caroline Lapierre Lemire<\/strong> (25.74), France’s Lauriane Haag<\/strong> (25.76), Japan’s Mari Sumiyoshi<\/strong> (25.95) and Sweden’s Nathalie Lindborg<\/strong> (25.95) also clinched spots in semis.<\/p>\n

Men’s 800 free relay<\/strong><\/p>\n

Team USA topped the men’s 800-meter free relay heats with a comfortable time of 7:19.83.<\/p>\n

Andrew Cosgarea<\/strong> (1:51.01), Andrew Seliskar<\/strong> (1:49.93), Sam Lewis<\/strong> (1:49.76) and Kyle Whitaker<\/strong> (1:49.13) put together that top time, and a new set of swimmers will be looking to challenge Russia’s meet record of 7:05.49 from 2013 during finals.<\/p>\n

Japan’s Katsuhiro Matsumoto<\/strong> (1:51.20), Takumi Komatsu<\/strong> (1:48.96), Naito Ehara<\/strong> (1:49.58) and Reo Sakata<\/strong> (1:50.42) qualified second in 7:2016.<\/p>\n

France’s Theo Fuchs<\/strong> (1:51.05), Ganesh Pedurand<\/strong> (1:50.27), Jonathan Atsu<\/strong> (1:48.99) and Simon Guerin<\/strong> (1:50.27) claimed the third seed in 7:20.58.<\/p>\n

Australia (7:22.66), Russia (7:22.78), Italy (7:23.51), China (7:23.71) and Czech (7:29.15) also made finals.<\/p>\n

Women’s 800 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Italians closed out prelims with a 1-2 in the women’s distance event.<\/p>\n

Martina Caramignoli<\/strong>, who has been on a mission here in Gwangju during distance events, topped qualifying in 8:35.54. \u00a0She has plenty of time to drop to challenge Flavia Rigamonti’s<\/strong> meet record of 8:25.59 from 2009.<\/p>\n

Teammate Martina De Memme<\/strong> qualified second in 8:38.39 with Australia’s Kiah Melverton<\/strong> snaring the third seed in 8:42.17.<\/p>\n

USA’s Kathryn Campbell<\/strong> (8:43.71) and Lindsay Vrooman<\/strong> (8:44.93) went back-to-back in qualifying to take the fourth and fifth seeds into the finale.<\/p>\n

Poland’s Justyna Burska<\/strong> (8:45.08), Japan’s Asami Chida<\/strong> (8:45.51) and Czech’s Martina Elheicka<\/strong> (8:49.38) also managed to make their way into finals with a grand total of three Martinas in the race.<\/p>\n

2015 World University Games, Day 6 Prelims – Results<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

SCHEDULED EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n
