THE Auburn Tigers finished the night strong with an NCAA and U.S. Open standard. The effort surpassed the 2:47.70 previously set by California in 2005.

The Auburn quartet of Jakob Andkjaer (42.52), Cesar Cielo (40.74), Matt Targett (41.45) and Bryan Lundquist (41.85) won in 2:46.56 for Auburn's sixth title in the event in NCAA history.

Meanwhile, Arizona's team of Albert Subirats (42.05), Nick Nilo (41.70), Darian Townsend (41.90) and Adam Ritter (42.21) finished second in 2:47.86, while Northwestern's foursome of Matt Grevers (42.33), Bruno Barbic (42.85), Eric Nilsson (44.04) and Kyle Bubolz (41.92) took third in 2:51.14.

In what has become a trend this meet, it just wouldn't be complete without a big DQ as California, which would have placed second in 2:50.62, felt the wrath of the relay touchpad by being disqualified for an early takeoff.

Auburn completed the meet with 566 points for the title, while Stanford took second with 397 points. Arizona (371), Florida (321) and Texas (296) closed out the top five.

Click here to listen to Cielo following the win.

NCAA Division I Champ.
