COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 14. THE Lake Forest Swim Club claimed the 2007 Chicago Speedo Championship Series title this weekend in a score of 679. New Trier Swim Club finished second with 599.50 points, while Wheaton Swim Club earned third place with a score of 403.50.<\/p>\n
Olympian Carly Piper swam in the four-day meet, capturing three event titles. Piper picked up her first victory in the 200-yard freestyle when she edged competitor Francis Szostak by .04 seconds to win in 1:51.25. She swam the 500-yard freestyle in meet record time of 4:46.69. Her final win came in the 100-yard freestyle when she stopped the clock first at 50.91. <\/p>\n
Dagyn Knustson left the meet with a total of four gold medals. Knuston touched in ahead in both the 100-yard butterfly (55.87) and 200-yard individual medley (2:01.77) despite swimming the events back-to-back. Her time in the medley was a meet record. She also garnered a win in the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.62), as well as the 200-yard butterfly (2:03.87). <\/p>\n
Tim Liebhold joined Knustson as a quadruple-event winner. He touched the wall in 49.29 in the 100-yard backstroke to earn his first title. Later that day, Liebhold swam the 200-yard individual medley in 1:49.51 for his second victory. He opened the third day of competition by setting a meet record of 3:53.39 in the 400-yard individual medley. He completed his winning streak in the 200-yard backstroke, winning in a time of 1:46.66. <\/p>\n
Several swimmers took home a pair of victories. Emily Dominiski stopped the clock first in the 100-yard backstroke at 56.03 before lowering her own meet record in the 50-yard freestyle to 23.13. Kathleen Patterson owned the distance events, winning both the 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyle, touching in at 10:17.06 and 17:12.96, respectively. <\/p>\n
Ashley Wanland and Kevin Zakrzewski snagged the breaststroke titles. Wanland set a meet record of 1:02.24 in the 100-yard distance. She just missed the meet record in the 200 by one-tenth. Wanland did, however, swim the race in a pool record time of 2:14.21. Zakrzewski also swam the 100 in meet record time, clocking a 54.44.
