BANGOR, Maine, March 20. MOUNT Desert Island High School cruised through the Maine "B" men's championship, winning its fourth consecutive championship. Mount Desert Island won six events en route to totaling 418 points. Greely High School placed second with 276 points while Ellsworth High School scored 168 points and placed third. <\/p>\n
Mount Desert Island swept all three relays. The 200 medley relay contingent of Ty Onda, Ian Carbone, Justin Gilmartin and Reid Swanson bested the competition with a winning time of 1:44.30. Mount Desert Island's quartet containing Gilmartin, Swanson, Patrick Breen and Frank Carbone dropped seven seconds off of their preliminary time to win in a 1:32.45 time. The foursome of Onda, Breen, Ian Carbone and Frank Carbone shaved off a remarkable 11 seconds off of their preliminary time on their way to winning in 3:27.99.<\/p>\n
Frank Carbone captured two individual events to add on to his relay success. Carbone edged out the field in the 200 freestyle (1:47.53) and the 500 freestyle (5:02.04). Tyler Bowen of Belfast Area High School crushed the field by 10 seconds in the 200 I.M. (2:00.72) and he bested Gilmartin in a closer 100 backstroke race with a winning time of 54.14.<\/p>\n
Ellsworth's John Hessler recorded a photo-finish win in the 50 freestyle, touching out Lincoln Academy's Sylas Hatch by .01 with a 22.26 time. Hessler also won the 100 freestyle in 48.57.<\/p>\n
Scott McMann of Greely slipped past the competition in the diving competition. Just over one point determined the difference between first and third place. McMann's 214.95 final score edged out second place Kirby Kelly of Orono (214.25) and Justin Bergeron of John Bapst Memorial High School (213.75).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
