CHATHAM, Virginia, March 12. THE Collegiate School men scored 379 points en route to dominating the other teams at the Virginia Independent School championship meet for their initial state championship title.<\/p>\n
Paul VI Catholic High School, the defending state champion, scored 236 points and came in second while Bishop Ireton High School racked up 181 points to secure a third place finish.<\/p>\n
Collegiate School's Scott Stuart Ferguson snagged two individual wins, reprising his dual victories from a year ago. Ferguson won the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.14, and he torched the competition in the 100 breaststroke clocking an Automatic All-American time of 56.65. Ferguson split a 25.66 breast leg as his 200 medley relay team won in an AA-A time of 1:37.59.<\/p>\n
Colin Heinrich of the Trinity Episcopal School went untouched in his two individual events, winning both the 200 freestyle (1:43.35) and the 500 freestyle (4:36.94) in All-American consideration and automatic times, respectively.<\/p>\n
Scott Madaras from the Hampton Roads Academy, who earned Male Swimmer of the Meet, easily captured titles in his events. Madaras dropped a second off of his preliminary time in the 100 butterfly (49.89), and he pulled ahead in the second 50 en route to a victory in the 100 freestyle (46.57) to defend his titles in those events with Automatic All-American times.<\/p>\n
Hargrave Military Academy fielded two first-place relays. The 200 freestyle relay quartet of Rohan Johnson, Steven Gasparis, Pat Martelli and Ryan Inwood touched first with a 1:27.80 Automatic All-American time while the 400 freestyle relay grouping of Johnson, Inwood, Gasparis and Martelli won with a time of 3:15.26. <\/p>\n
Briggy Imbriglia from Ireton recorded a first-place score of 442.10 in the diving competition. Henry Winslow from the Collegiate School placed second with a 325.85 score while Jim Kuhn from Ireton scored 311.95 points and took third.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
