Men’s 200 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

A pair of top 20 times in the world went up on the board in the men’s 200-meter fly prelims.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Francesco Pavone<\/strong> moved into an 18th-ranked tie with Sebastien Rousseau<\/strong> with a 1:56.40, while Russia’s Evgeny Koptelov<\/strong> put up a 20th-ranked time of 1:56.56 for the second seed.<\/p>\n

Both have some time to cut to catch up to Pawel Korzeniowski’s<\/strong> meet record of 1:54.30 from 2009.<\/p>\n

USA’s Andrew Seliskar<\/strong> (1:57.21), Great Britain’s Cameron Brodie<\/strong> (1:57.66), Japan’s Yuya Yajima<\/strong> (1:58.15), Russia’s Aleksandr Pribytok<\/strong> (1:58.33), Italy’s Matteo Pelizzari<\/strong> (1:58.35) and France’s Jordan Coelho<\/strong> (1:58.39) also made the top eight.<\/p>\n

Seliskar is the favorite in this meet with a season-best 1:55.92 from the Austin stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series and will need to get back to that speed to win gold.<\/p>\n

USA’s Kyle Whitaker<\/strong> (1:58.49), New Zealand’s Shaun Burnett<\/strong> (1:58.58), Japan’s Masayuki Umemoto<\/strong> (1:58.62), Australia’s Keiran Qaium<\/strong> (1:58.74), Czech’s Jan Sefl<\/strong> (1:58.81), Poland’s Michal Poprawa<\/strong> (1:59.47), Australia’s Nicholas Brown<\/strong> (1:59.50) and France’s Paul Lemaire<\/strong> (1:59.74) also made semis.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n

USA’s Madison Cox<\/strong> put herself in position to take down the Universiade record in the women’s 200-meter IM with a top time of 2:12.79.<\/p>\n

That swim is less than a second back of Ava Ohlgren’s<\/strong> 2009 mark of 2:12.07. That’s a huge personal best for Cox, coming into the meet with a 2:14.23 top time from last summer.<\/p>\n

Australia’s Ellen Fullerton<\/strong> hit the wall second in the morning with a time of 2:13.75, while Australia’s Aisling Scott<\/strong> qualified third in 2:14.81.<\/p>\n

South Korea’s Seoyoung Kim<\/strong> (2:15.28), Japan’s Miho Takahashi<\/strong> (2:15.34), Finland’s Tanja Kylliainen<\/strong> (2:15.34), China’s Zhang Sishi<\/strong> (2:15.40) and Italy’s Luisa Trombetti<\/strong> (2:15.48) closed out the top eight.<\/p>\n

USA’s Celina Li<\/strong> led the rest of the semifinalists with a ninth-seeded time of 2:15.61.<\/p>\n

Czech’s Barbora Zavadova<\/strong> (2:15.71), Japan’s Emu Higuchi<\/strong> (2:15.77), Canada’s Barbara Rojas-Jardin<\/strong> (2:16.21), Taipei’s Wan-Jung Cheng<\/strong> (2:16.76), Sweden’s Jaqueline Hippi<\/strong> (2:17.06), Russia’s Viktoriia Malyutina<\/strong> (2:17.06), and Ireland’s Sycerika McMahon<\/strong> (2:17.59) also grabbed semi spots.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 breast<\/strong><\/p>\n

Russia’s Kirill Prigoda<\/strong> paced prelims in the men’s 200-meter breast with a time of 2:12.28 as one of just a trio of swimmers to put up 2:12s this morning during qualifying.<\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Craig Benson<\/strong> raced his way to a second-seeded time of 2:12.62, while USA’s Josh Prenot<\/strong> put up a third-seeded 2:12.89.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Marat Amaltdinov<\/strong> (2:13.12), Australia’s Nicholas Schafer<\/strong> (2:13.19), Great Britain’s Calum Tait<\/strong> (2:13.34), Italy’s Flavio Bizzarri<\/strong> (2:13.47) and Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Balandin<\/strong> (2:13.15) closed out the rest of the top eight semifinalists.<\/p>\n

Japan’s Kazuki Kohinata<\/strong> (2:13.53), USA’s DJ MacDonald<\/strong> (2:13.57), Japan’s Akihiro Yamaguchi<\/strong> (2:13.65), Ireland’s Nicholas Quinn<\/strong> (2:13.70), Ukraine’s Dmytro Oseledets<\/strong> (2:13.88), Italy’s Luca Pizzini<\/strong> (2:14.06), Israel’s Ronen Faur<\/strong> (2:14.07) and Germany’s Max Pilger<\/strong> (2:14.21) will also compete in semis.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 back<\/strong><\/p>\n

Canada’s Kylie Masse<\/strong> was the only swimmer to clear 1:01 this morning as she earned the top seed heading into semis with a time of 1:00.58.<\/p>\n

The California Golden Bear American teammates Elizabeth Pelton<\/strong> (1:01.01) and Rachel Bootsma<\/strong> (1:01.04) put up easy speed 1:01s to put themselves into strong spots in semis.<\/p>\n

Czech’s Simona Baumrtova<\/strong> (1:01.40), Italy’s Carlotta Zofkova<\/strong> (1:01.60), Kazakhstan’s Yekaterina Rudenko<\/strong> (1:01.67), Russia’s Polina Lapshina<\/strong> (1:01.81) and Australia’s Holly Barratt<\/strong> (1:01.82) qualified fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n

Canada’s Marie-Pier Couillard<\/strong> (1:01.97), Japan’s Miki Takahashi<\/strong> (1:02.00), New Zealand’s Caroline Baddock<\/strong> (1:02.06), Japan’s Yuka Kawayoke<\/strong> (1:02.34), France’s Camille Gheorghiu<\/strong> (1:02.34), The Netherlands’ Kira Toussaint<\/strong> (1:02.34), Italy’s Stefania Cartapani<\/strong> (1:02.36) and Australia’s Hayley White<\/strong> (1:02.49) will also put up times in semis.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 back<\/strong><\/p>\n

Japan’s Junya Hasegawa<\/strong> turned in the top time in a stacked men’s 50-meter back field with a time of 25.44.<\/p>\n

Italy’s Stefano Pizzamiglio<\/strong> touched just behind with a second-seeded time of 25.47, while South Korea’s Seonkwan Park<\/strong> qualified third in 25.75. \u00a0Brazil’s Henrique Martins matched Park’s time as well with a 25.75 of his own.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Nikita Ulyanov<\/strong> (25.85), Japan’s Kosuke Matsui<\/strong> (25.85), Belarus’ Viktar Staselovich<\/strong> (25.87) and Italy’s Matteo Milli<\/strong> (25.94) snared fifth through eighth seeds in prelims.<\/p>\n

France’s Eddie Moueddene<\/strong> (25.95), Belarus’ Maksim Dzialendzik<\/strong> (25.97), Indonesia’s Gede Sudartawa<\/strong> (25.99), Germany’s Felix Wolf<\/strong> (26.04), Great Britain’s Joseph Patching<\/strong> (26.06), USA’s Jacob Pebley<\/strong> (26.09), Lithuania’s Gytis Stankevicius<\/strong> (26.13) and South Korea’s Heewoong Shin<\/strong> (26.14) qualified ninth through 16th to close out semis.<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 free<\/strong><\/p>\n

Great Britain’s Jay Lelliott<\/strong> continued his breakthrough meet with a 3:51.41 to top qualifying in the middle distance event.<\/p>\n

Australia’s Jack McLoughlin<\/strong> also put up a 3:51 as he clocked a second-seeded time of 3:51.48.<\/p>\n

The top duo will have to drop some serious time to challenge Przemyslaw Stancysk’s<\/strong> meet record of 3:46.72 from 2009.<\/p>\n

Japan’s Naito Ehara<\/strong> snared the third seed with a time of 3:52.17, while Italy’s Damiano Lestingi<\/strong> picked up fourth in 3:52.20.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Aleksandr Fedorov<\/strong> (3:52.43), South Korea’s Seungho Baek<\/strong> (3:52.46), Ukraine’s Sergii Frolov<\/strong> (3:52.71) and USA’s Reed Malone<\/strong> (3:52.71) will also compete in the championship field.<\/p>\n
