﻿{"id":141407,"date":"2015-07-05T11:31:58","date_gmt":"2015-07-05T18:31:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=141407"},"modified":"2015-07-05T11:34:25","modified_gmt":"2015-07-05T18:34:25","slug":"four-meet-records-fall-on-final-day-of-open-luxembourg-swimming-nationals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/four-meet-records-fall-on-final-day-of-open-luxembourg-swimming-nationals\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Meet Records Fall on Final Day of Open Luxembourg Swimming Nationals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2015 Open Luxembourg Swimming Nationals concluded with three women&#8217;s meet records and one mixed-relay record being broken.\u00a0<strong>Monique Olivier<\/strong>, <strong>Sarah Vasey<\/strong> and <strong>Charlotte Evans<\/strong> all set individual records on night two of the meet.<\/p>\n<p>The combination of <strong>Nelly\u00a0Velthuijs<\/strong>, <strong>Tom Donker<\/strong>, <strong>Marij Van Der Mast<\/strong> and <strong>Steven\u00a0Nonnekes<\/strong> also broke a meet record in the mixed 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:42.48.<\/p>\n<p>Olivier dominated the 800 freestyle with a time of 8:50.99. The race was close through the 400 meter mark with Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Georgia Darwent<\/strong> and <strong>Isobel Griffiths<\/strong>. Olivier swam a fast third 200 to make her way out front in meet-record fashion.<\/p>\n<p>Breaststroke star Vasey<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>re-broke her 50 breaststroke meet record which she set <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-vasey-sets-two-meet-records-in-one-race-at-open-luxembourg-nationals\/\" target=\"_blank\">going out in the 100 on the first night of competition<\/a>. She bested her time of 32.57 with a 31.35 in the finals. She was over three seconds ahead of her closest competitor.<\/p>\n<p>Evans&#8217; record came in the 100 backstroke, where she broke <strong>Sarah Rolko<\/strong>&#8216;s meet record of 1:03.35. Evans was second at the 50, but came back to swim a 1:03.04 and out-swim <strong>Eliza Duffy<\/strong> (1:04.07).<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side of these three races, <strong>Laurent Carnol<\/strong> took the 50 breaststroke (28.46) over <strong>Christopher Steeples<\/strong> (28.85). <strong>Jean-Francois Schneiders<\/strong> lead the men&#8217;s 100 backstroke from start to finish, swimming a 57.90. He was followed by <strong>Max Mannes<\/strong> in 59.53 seconds. The men&#8217;s Olympic distance event went to <strong>Pol Mannes<\/strong> of Swimming Luxembourg. He was 13 seconds ahead of his closest competitor, winning with a time of 17:26.66.<\/p>\n<p>Finals were also held for five other events on day two, starting with the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s 200 IM.\u00a0<strong>Arjan Knipping<\/strong> doubled up his IM victories for the weekend taking the 200 IM in 2:05.79. His strong back half of the IM secured him the victory in this event. While it was within a second at the 100 with many competitors, Knipping ended up taking the event by seven seconds.\u00a0<strong>Candice Hall<\/strong> won the women&#8217;s 200 IM in 2:19.67. She dominated the race in similar fashion to Knipping.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pit Brandenburger<\/strong> won a close match up in the men&#8217;s 200 free with a 1:54.27 just ahead of Schneiders who swam a 1:54.76. Both Schneiders and <strong>Julien Henx<\/strong> were ahead of Brandenburger at the 100, but neither could hold on for the win.<\/p>\n<p>Olivier\u00a0added another win to her tally in the women&#8217;s 200 freestyle. She won the event by four seconds in 2:03.39. She was followed by Darwent (2:07.24) and Velthuijs (2:07.55). Griffiths was fourth in 2:08.57.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nyls Korstanje<\/strong> beat pool record holder Henx to the wall in the men&#8217;s 50 freestyle. Their times were 23.39 and 23.59, respectively. In the women&#8217;s race, the pool record holder prevailed as <strong>Julie Meynen<\/strong> claimed victory in 25.92. She was the only swimmer to break 26 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Carnol took another breaststroke race winning the 200 in 2:14.65. Just off his meet record, Carnol won the event by over six seconds. <strong>Niamh Hofland<\/strong> had a tougher time winning the women&#8217;s 200 breaststroke, as she chased down <strong>Storm Willemsen<\/strong> to get the win. Hofland went 2:46.72 to get the gold, while Willemsen swam a 2:46.94.<\/p>\n<p>Donker<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>took the men&#8217;s 100 fly in 56.94, while Hall took the women&#8217;s event in 1:02.89.
