Hit refresh for the latest coverage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 800 free finals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ukraine&#8217;s <strong>Sergii Frolov<\/strong> edged out Great Britain&#8217;s<strong> Jay Lelliott<\/strong> in an epic men&#8217;s 800-meter free battle.<\/p>\n<p>The two battled throughout the entire race with Frolov taking gold in 7:50.28 to move to third in the world rankings. \u00a0Lelliott, meanwhile, took silver in 7:50.97. \u00a0That swim shot him to sixth in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>800 Free World Rankings<\/strong><\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <strong>Ayatsugu Hirai<\/strong> turned on the afterburners down the final 50 meters to overtake USA&#8217;s <strong>Janardan Burns<\/strong> for bronze, 7:52.77 to 7:56.53. \u00a0Hirai moved to 11th in the world rankings with the swim.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s <strong>Jack McLoughlin<\/strong> (7:57.76), Japan&#8217;s<strong> Kohei Yamamoto<\/strong> (7:57.84), USA&#8217;s <strong>Arthur Frayler<\/strong> (7:59.09), Australia&#8217;s <strong>Jordan Harrison<\/strong> (8:10.40) also competed for the title.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 100 breast semifinals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <strong>Mina Matsushima<\/strong> threw down a blistering time of 1:07.04 to top semifinal qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>That swim shot her to ninth in the world rankings, undercutting her season best of 1:07.52 from the Japan Open that had ranked 19th in the world.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Lilly King<\/strong> uncorked a lifetime best time of 1:07.21 to win the first semifinal and qualify second overall. \u00a0That swim pushed her to 14th in the world rankings, and beat King&#8217;s previous best of 1:07.98 from the 2014 Junior Pan Pacs.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s <strong>Jessica Hansen<\/strong> earned the third seed with a 1:07.48 to move into the top 20 in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Ireland&#8217;s <strong>Fiona Doyle<\/strong> (1:07.67), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Martina Carraro<\/strong> (1:08.07), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Natalia Ivaneeva<\/strong> (1:08.09), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Ilaria Scarcela<\/strong> (1:08.36) and Ukraine&#8217;s <strong>Mariia Liver<\/strong> (1:08.38) also made finals.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Emma Reaney<\/strong> wound up 10th overall with a 1:08.90 to miss finals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 50 fly finals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Henrique Martins<\/strong> shot to third in the world rankings as he topped the sprint fly this evening.<\/p>\n<p>Martins bettered his ninth-ranked season best of 23.38 with a 23.22 to win the gold medal. \u00a0Only <strong>Nicholas Santos<\/strong> (22.90) and <strong>Cesar Cielo<\/strong> (23.11) have been faster this year. That gives Brazil a 1-2-3 in the event rankings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>50 Fly World Rankings<\/strong><\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<p>Belarus&#8217; <strong>Yauhen Tsurkin<\/strong>, who ranks fourth in the world with a 23.26 from the Russian Championships, wound up with silver tonight in 23.44. \u00a0Italy&#8217;s <strong>Piero Codia<\/strong> rounded out the podium with a bronze-winning time of 23.48.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s <strong>Oleg Kostin<\/strong> (23.57), USA&#8217;s <strong>Matt Josa<\/strong> (23.81), China&#8217;s <strong>Shi Yang<\/strong> (23.85), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Aleksandr Sadovnikov<\/strong> (23.95) and USA&#8217;s <strong>Andrew Seliskar<\/strong> (24.28) closed out the rest of the championship heat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 100 back finals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <strong>Junya Hasegawa<\/strong> went out fast in 25.93 and had enough coming home to capture the gold medal with a time of 53.77 in the men&#8217;s 100-meter back finale.<\/p>\n<p>That swim shot Hasegawa up to 12th in the world, shared with <strong>Ben Treffers&#8217;<\/strong> 53.77 from Australian Nationals.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s <strong>Christopher Ciccarese<\/strong> powered his way into silver with a sizzling 27.57 back half to finish second in 53.92 to stand 19th in the world.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Jack Conger<\/strong> put up a 54.09 to win bronze, while teammate <strong>Jacob Pebley<\/strong> missed the podium with a 54.22.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s <strong>Matteo Milli<\/strong> (54.65), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Andrei Shabasov<\/strong> (54.76), South Korea&#8217;s <strong>Seonkwan Park<\/strong> (54.90) and France&#8217;s <strong>Eddie Moueddene<\/strong> (55.14) also vied for the title.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 100 free semifinals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s <strong>Rozaliya Nasretdinova<\/strong> led a pair of Americans into the women&#8217;s 100-meter free final with the only sub-55 time of the evening.<\/p>\n<p>The Russian put up a time of 54.92 for the top seed, and will need to drop some more time to challenge the top 20 times in the world currently anchored by <strong>Michelle Williams<\/strong> of Canada with a 54.21.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Shannon Vreeland<\/strong> chased after Nasretdinova in semifinal 1 to claim the second seed in 55.04, while teammate <strong>Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> won the second semifinal with a third-seeded effort of 55.25.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <strong>Yui Yamane<\/strong> put up a 55.26 to qualify fourth, while Slovakia&#8217;s <strong>Katarina Listopadova<\/strong> earned fifth in 55.37.<\/p>\n<p>Russia&#8217;s <strong>Margarita Nesterova<\/strong> (55.44), Italy&#8217;s<strong> Laura Letrari<\/strong> (55.65) and Australia&#8217;s <strong>Ami Matsuo<\/strong> (55.72) closed out the championship field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 200 IM semifinals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Josh Prenot<\/strong> crushed the first semifinal field in the breaststroke leg then shut it down in freestyle en route to a 1:59.21 to win the heat and lead the field into finals. That&#8217;s a bit off his 13th-ranked season best of 1:58.98 from the Charlotte stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s<strong> Justin James<\/strong> touched just behind Prenot to qualify second in 1:59.29 to move to 16th in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Kyle Whitaker<\/strong> followed Prenot&#8217;s lead with a huge breaststroke leg to win semifinal 2 with a third-seeded 1:59.69, while Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Max Litchfield<\/strong> picked up fourth in 1:59.94.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <strong>Takeharu Fujimori<\/strong>, ranked 17th in the world with a 1:59.36, earned the fifth seed in 2:00.19.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <strong>Keita Sunama<\/strong>, the event favorite with a ninth-ranked season best of 1:58.64 from Japanese Nationals, put up an easy speed 2:00.21 to take sixth to make the finale.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s <strong>Travis Mahoney<\/strong> (2:00.33) and Russia&#8217;s <strong>Dmitrii Gorbunov<\/strong> (2:01.33) also made the finale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 200 back finals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s<strong> Lisa Bratton<\/strong> unfurled a scorching back-half en route to winning gold in a time of 2:09.31.<\/p>\n<p>That swim pushed her to 12th in the world and was her first time under 2:10, undercutting her lifetime best of 2:10.62 from earlier this year as part of the Arena Pro Swim Series.<\/p>\n<p>Bratton challenged the Universiade record of 2:08.19 set by <strong>Stephanie Proud<\/strong> in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Czech&#8217;s <strong>Simona Baumrtova<\/strong> claimed silver with a time of 2:10.53, while Japan&#8217;s <strong>Yuka Kawayoke<\/strong> chased down bronze in 2:11.60.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Melanie Klaren<\/strong> went out fast, leading at the 100 with a 1:03.32, but fell apart coming home as she settled for fourth overall in 2:12.01.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s <strong>Barbara Rojas-Jardin<\/strong> (2:13.16), Japan&#8217;s <strong>Miki Takahashi<\/strong> (2:13.62), France&#8217;s <strong>Camille Gheorghiu<\/strong> (2:13.63) and Russia&#8217;s <strong>Alexandra Papusha<\/strong> (2:14.29) also battled for the title.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 200 free semifinals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Reed Malone<\/strong> almost posted a lifetime best as he paced the men&#8217;s 200-meter free semis with a 1:47.85. \u00a0In fact, Malone was the only swimmer under 1:48 as he challenged his best of 1:47.41 from last summer&#8217;s nationals.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <strong>Reo Sakata<\/strong> turned in a second-seeded time of 1:48.22 with Italy&#8217;s <strong>Gianluca Maglia<\/strong> putting up a third-seeded 1:48.42.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s<strong> Naito Ehara<\/strong> (1:48.58), Australia&#8217;s <strong>Jacob Hansford<\/strong> (1:48.75), USA&#8217;s <strong>Clay Youngquist<\/strong> (1:48.76), Switzerland&#8217;s <strong>Alexandre Haldemann<\/strong> (1:49.04) and China&#8217;s <strong>Qian Zhiyong<\/strong> (1:49.11) rounded out the top eight headed to finals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 100 breast finals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Kazakhstan&#8217;s <strong>Dmitry Balandin<\/strong>, one of the top 200 breaststrokers all time, uncorked a 59.96 to win the shorter distance event and move to ninth in the world this year.<\/p>\n<p>Balandin came up half-a-second shy of <strong>Igor Borysik&#8217;s<\/strong> meet record of 59.53 from 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>James Wilby<\/strong> grabbed silver in a time of 1:00.28 for his first international podium, while teammate <strong>Craig Benson<\/strong> wound up taking bronze with a time of 1:00.33.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>DJ MacDonald<\/strong> (1:00.51), Japan&#8217;s<strong> Kazuki Kohinata<\/strong> (1:00.75), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Oleg Kostin<\/strong> (1:00.85) and Australia&#8217;s <strong>Nicholas Schafer<\/strong> (1:00.90) finished fourth through seventh.<\/p>\n<p>Serbia&#8217;s <strong>Caba Siladji<\/strong>, the pre-meet favorite with a seventh-ranked season best of 59.79 from the Eindhoven Swim Cup, went out fast in 27.95 but paid for it as he wound up taking eighth in 1:01.01.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 50 fly finals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Olympic silver medalist <strong>Lu Ying<\/strong> of China cleared the Universiade record in the women&#8217;s 50-meter fly.<\/p>\n<p>Lu clocked a time of 25.72 to move to fourth in the world rankings, and broke <strong>Aleksandra Gerasimenya&#8217;s<\/strong> 2013 mark of 25.84.<\/p>\n<p><strong>50 Fly World Rankings<\/strong><\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<p>Russia&#8217;s <strong>Svetlana Chimrova<\/strong> powered her way to silver with a time of 26.23, while Australia&#8217;s <strong>Holly Barratt<\/strong> took bronze in 26.41.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s <strong>Samantha Corea<\/strong> (26.51), Ukraine&#8217;s<strong> Darya Stepanyuk<\/strong> (26.80), New Zealand&#8217;s <strong>Laura Quilter<\/strong> (26.85), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Elena Di Liddo<\/strong> (26.90) and USA&#8217;s <strong>Christina Bechtel<\/strong> (27.00) also competed
