In the women&#8217;s event,\u00a0<strong>Jenna Laukkanen<\/strong>\u00a0swam a 31.28 to secure her middle lane in the final.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 50 freestyle semifinal winner was\u00a0<strong>Ari-Pekka Liukkonen<\/strong>, the Finnish record holder in this event,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>with a time of 22.32. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/close-mens-races-highlight-day-1-of-finnish-grand-prix\/\" target=\"_blank\">Last night&#8217;s 100 freestyle champion<\/a>\u00a0<strong>Miikka Ruohoniemi\u00a0<\/strong>will also be in the mix with the fourth seed at<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>23.23.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mimosa Jallow<\/strong> (25.40)\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Hanna-Maria Sepp\u00e4l\u00e4<\/strong>\u00a0(25.43) set themselves up for another battle in tomorrow&#8217;s final following a one-two finish in the 100 freestyle the night before.\u00a0<strong>Tessa Nurminen<\/strong>\u00a0is also a contender with the third seed at 25.79 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Finals action kicked off with the men&#8217;s 100 breaststroke, where\u00a0<strong>Sami Myren<\/strong>\u00a0went out hard and held on to take the race in 1:02.83.\u00a0<strong>Olli Kokko<\/strong>\u00a0(1:03.32) and\u00a0<strong>Filipp Provorkov<\/strong> (1:03.41) battled for second place and were separated by just .01 seconds at the 50. Kokko had the edge to claim silver in this race.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s event\u00a0was not as close, as\u00a0<strong>Silja K\u00e4ns\u00e4koski<\/strong>\u00a0won comfortably with a 1:10.09.\u00a0<strong>Carita Luukkanen<\/strong>\u00a0swam a 1:11.49 for second place, and\u00a0<strong>Veera Kivirinta<\/strong>\u00a0was a distant third at\u00a01:13.07.<\/p>\n<p>Liukkonen and Sepp\u00e4l\u00e4 then teamed up with <strong>Fanny Teijonsalo<\/strong> and <strong>Tuomas Pokkinen<\/strong>\u00a0for team Cetus Espoo to win the mixed 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.89.<\/p>\n<p>The session continued from sprint medleys to distance medleys, as <strong>Miro Torola<\/strong> (4:37.66) and <strong>Hilla\u00a0Kortetj\u00e4rvi<\/strong>\u00a0(5:00.53) each won their respective 400 IM finals. Both swimmers lead their races from start to finish.<\/p>\n<p>Liukkonen and Pokkinen returned to the pool to take second and third in the 50 butterfly final. The event was won by\u00a0<strong>Evgeny Lomtev<\/strong>\u00a0with a 24.75. The race came down to the finish as\u00a0Liukkonen\u00a0(24.77) and\u00a0Pokkinen\u00a0(24.80) were not far behind.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 50 butterfly was won by\u00a0Teijonsalo, who just missed\u00a0the Finnish national record by .02\u00a0with her time of 26.92.
