LAST night, Indian River Community College pushed out to commanding leads at the NJCAA Championships held in Buffalo, N.Y., from March 7-10. <\/p>\n<p>In the women&#39;s meet, IRCC has 626.5 points, while Monroe Community stands second with 324.5 points.  Lincoln is in third with 306 points, while Vincennes (242) and Genessee Community (142) complete the rest of the top five.<\/p>\n<p>For the men, IRCC has doubled up its nearest competitor with 750 points.  Lincoln is in second with 344 points, while Monroe Community holds third with 248 points.  Vincennes (214) and Dupage (155) are in fourth and fifth, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 medley relay<\/b><br \/>\nIRCC&#39;s team of Alexis Omans, Kim Martella, Shanda Casella and Cortney Place won the race in 1:48.14, while Lincoln&#39;s squad of Rachel Slattery, Samantha Gusich, Mekenzie Lewis and Gabrielle Klinefelter finished second in 1:56.47.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 medley relay<\/b><br \/>\nIndian River&#39;s foursome of Roberto Gomez, Daniel Munoz, Gordon Touw Ngie Tjouw and Scott Baker touched first in 1:31.50, while Lincoln&#39;s Michael Dellinger, Adam Johnson, Joe Taylor and Dillon York placed second in 1:37.65.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 400 IM<\/b><br \/>\nIRCC&#39;s Ana Rubin hit the wall first in 4:46.53, while Monroe Community&#39;s Amy Buisman took second in 5:06.48 and Cobleskill&#39;s Gabrielle Asay finished third in 5:20.13.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 400 IM<\/b><br \/>\nIndian River&#39;s Fernando Costa won in 4:01.46, while Monroe Community&#39;s Kazuma Uda grabbed second in 4:06.73 and IRCC&#39;s Seth Clayton took third in 4:11.49.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 butterfly<\/b><br \/>\nIRCC&#39;s Shanda Casella turned in a first-place 58.82, while Darton&#39;s Sara Stewart took second in 1:00.28 and Lincoln&#39;s Mekenzie Lewis snagged third in 1:01.28.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 butterfly<\/b><br \/>\nIndian River dominated with a 1-2-3-4 effort.  Gordon Touw Ngie Tjouw won in 49.03, while teammates Jeff Gaik (50.58), LeRoux Pelser (51.55) and Javier Ahumada (52.70) finished second, third and fourth, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nThe IRCC women answered with a 1-2-3-4 of their own.  Amanda Neubig finished first in 1:52.49, while Amber Pheil (1:57.17), Vanessa Cox (1:57.36) and Erin Linley (1:58.52) rounded out the top four.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nIndian River probably felt like it was at a practice in the championship heat with six swimmers finishing 1-2-3-4-5-8.  Gideon Louw (1:38.01), Roberto Gomez (1:39.36), Raul Martinez (1:40.51), Michael Guerra (1:43.91) and Blake Wright (1:44.52) swept the top five, while Scott Baker took eighth in 1:57.34.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 breaststroke<\/b><br \/>\nIRCC swept the top three as Kim Martella won in 1:04.90 as Kalia Martin (1:08.45) and Whitney Peck (1:09.15) finished second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 breaststroke<\/b><br \/>\nAnother 1-2-3 for IRCC as Patrick Blom touched first in 58.06, while Daniel Munoz (58.73) and Jason Shoemaker (59.80) rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 backstroke<\/b><br \/>\nIndian River went 1-3 as Alexis Omans won in 59.29, while Wendy Garza took third in 1:03.01.  Lincoln&#39;s Rachel Slattery split the difference in 1:01.84 for second.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 backstroke<\/b><br \/>\nIRCC&#39;s Nick Schwartz won in 51.30, while Darton&#39;s Nathan Cornett (53.39) and Vincennes&#39; Oluseyi Fatayi-Williams (54.88) touched second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jason Marsteller BUFFALO, New York, March 10.
