Hit refresh for the latest coverage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 800 free<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Jay Lelliott<\/strong> torched the rest of the preliminary heats with a strong time of 7:55.81 as far and away the best swim of the morning.<\/p>\n<p>That time is only a few seconds back of the top 10 in the world currently anchored by <strong>Yosuke Miyamoto<\/strong> with a 7:53.05. Lelliott will need to drop some serious time to challenge the meet record held by <strong>Chad LaTourette<\/strong> with a 7:47.24 from 2009.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Janardan Burns<\/strong> broke 8:01 for the first time in his career with a strong 7:59.06 for the second seed, while Ukraine&#8217;s <strong>Sergii Frolov<\/strong> claimed third in prelims with a 7:59.88 to round out the sub-8:00 performers.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <strong>Ayatsugu Hirai<\/strong> (8:00.69), USA&#8217;s<strong> Arthur Frayler<\/strong> (8:00.93), Australia&#8217;s <strong>Jack McLoughlin<\/strong> (8:01.21), Australia&#8217;s <strong>Jordan Harrison<\/strong> (8:01.30) and Japan&#8217;s <strong>Kohei Yamamoto<\/strong> (8:03.69) also made tomorrow&#8217;s finale.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 50 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There could be a new Universiade record in the women&#8217;s 50-meter fly with the semifinalists assembled out of prelims this morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aleksandra Gerasimenya&#8217;s<\/strong> 2013 time of 25.84 could be under duress as Australia&#8217;s <strong>Holly Barratt<\/strong> led the way with a 26.54. \u00a0China&#8217;s <strong>Lu Ying<\/strong> (26.55) and Russia&#8217;s<strong> Svetlana Chimrova<\/strong> (26.66) qualified second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s <strong>Samantha Corea<\/strong> (26.68), USA&#8217;s <strong>Felicia Lee<\/strong> (26.76), Slovakia&#8217;s <strong>Katarina Listopadova<\/strong> (26.77), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Alina Kashinskaya<\/strong> (26.89) and Italy&#8217;s <strong>Elena Di Liddo<\/strong> (26.94) all cleared 27 seconds for the top eight.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine&#8217;s <strong>Nadiia Koba<\/strong> (27.02), Ukraine&#8217;s<strong> Darya Stepanyuk<\/strong> (27.09), USA&#8217;s <strong>Christina Bechtel<\/strong> (27.09), New Zealand&#8217;s <strong>Laura Quilter<\/strong> (27.12), South Africa&#8217;s <strong>Jessica Ashley-Cooper<\/strong> (27.16), Japan&#8217;s<strong> Rino Hosoda<\/strong> (27.30), Ireland&#8217;s <strong>Shauna O&#8217;Brien<\/strong> (27.40) and South Africa&#8217;s <strong>Marne Erasmus<\/strong> (27.41) also made semis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 100 back<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s <strong>Junya Hasegawa<\/strong> will look to give Japan some better news today after his compatriot <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/kosuke-hagino-out-of-world-championships-with-broken-elbow\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kosuke Hagino had to withdraw from the World Championships with a broken right elbow today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hasegawa, already 20th in the world with a 54.00 from Japanese Nationals, led prelims with a time of 54.27.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Jack Conger<\/strong> hit the wall second in prelims with a time of 54.86, while Italy&#8217;s <strong>Christopher Ciccarese<\/strong> earned the third seed in 54.98. \u00a0That trio will have a hard time tracking down <strong>Ryosuke Irie&#8217;s<\/strong> meet record of 52.60 from 2009, but could challenge for the top 10 in the world currently held by <strong>Camille Lacourt<\/strong> with a 53.60.<\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Jacob Pebley<\/strong> (55.17), Japan&#8217;s <strong>Yuma Edo<\/strong> (55.26), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Matteo Milli<\/strong> (55.49), Great Britain&#8217;s<strong> Joe Patching<\/strong> (55.50) and Russia&#8217;s <strong>Andrei Shabasov<\/strong> (55.76) made the top eight.<\/p>\n<p>South Korea&#8217;s <strong>Seonkwan Park<\/strong> (55.82), France&#8217;s <strong>Eddie Moueddene<\/strong> (55.83), Germany&#8217;s<strong> Felix Wolf<\/strong> (56.06), Poland&#8217;s <strong>Krzysztof Morawski<\/strong> (56.09), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Nikita Ulyanov<\/strong> (56.11), Germany&#8217;s<strong> Max Claussen<\/strong> (56.33), Canada&#8217;s<strong> Jeremie De Zwirek<\/strong> (56.34) and Sweden&#8217;s <strong>Axel Pettersson<\/strong> (56.35) also claimed spots in semis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>USA&#8217;s <strong>Sarah Henry<\/strong> unloaded a personal best in the distance medley to lead preliminary qualifying.<\/p>\n<p>Henry turned in a 4:39.62 to lead the way in prelims and take 18th in the world rankings. \u00a0That her first time under 4:40 ever, clearing her previous best of 4:40.72 from the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.<\/p>\n<p>If Henry can summon a truly transcendent swim during finals, she might be able to take down <strong>Yana Klochkova&#8217;s<\/strong> 2007 meet record of 4:37.50.<\/p>\n<p>Czech&#8217;s <strong>Barbora Zavadova<\/strong> (4:41.40) and USA&#8217;s<strong> Hali Flickinger<\/strong> (4:41.48) qualified second and third as they pushed each other to the limit in heat 3.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s <strong>Ellen Fullerton<\/strong> (4:42.22), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Luisa Trombetti<\/strong> (4:42.45), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Stefania Pirozzi<\/strong> (4:43.77), South Korea&#8217;s <strong>Seoyeong Kim<\/strong> (4:44.86) and China&#8217;s <strong>Li Xuanxu<\/strong> (4:46.05) will also vie for the championship title tonight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 100 breast<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Craig Benson<\/strong> nearly moved into the top 20 in the world with a top time in the 100-meter breast.<\/p>\n<p>Benson clocked a 1:00.46 for the top seed, just off <strong>Richard Funk&#8217;s<\/strong> 20th-ranked 1:00.44 from Canadian Trials. \u00a0He&#8217;ll need a big drop to contend with <strong>Igor Borysik&#8217;s<\/strong> meet record of 59.53 from 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s <strong>Nicholas Schafer<\/strong> finished second in prelims with a time of 1:00.90, while Russia&#8217;s <strong>Oleg Kostin<\/strong> also cleared 1:01 with a third-seeded 1:00.91.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#8217;s <strong>Jay Wilby<\/strong> (1:01.10), Serbia&#8217;s <strong>Caba Siladji<\/strong> (1:01.15), Italy&#8217;s <strong>Andrea Toniato<\/strong> (1:01.26), Japan&#8217;s<strong> Kazuki Kohinata<\/strong> (1:01.32) and Kazakhstan&#8217;s <strong>Dmitry Balandin<\/strong> (1:01.48) claimed the top eight spots into semis.<\/p>\n<p>Slovakia&#8217;s <strong>Tomas Klobucnik<\/strong> (1:01.60), Italy&#8217;s<strong> Lorenzo Antonelli<\/strong> (1:01.61), Germany&#8217;s <strong>Fabian Schwingenshlogl<\/strong> (1:01.74), USA&#8217;s <strong>Daniel MacDonald <\/strong>(1:01.79), Russia&#8217;s<strong> Anton Lobanov<\/strong> (1:01.82), Ireland&#8217;s <strong>Nicholas<\/strong> <strong>Quinn<\/strong> (1:01.84), Ukraine&#8217;s <strong>Dmytro<\/strong> <strong>Oseledets<\/strong> (1:01.95) and Japan&#8217;s <strong>Akihiro<\/strong> <strong>Yamaguchi<\/strong> (1:01.97) will also contend for finals spots in semis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 200 back<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lisa<\/strong> <strong>Bratton<\/strong> led a United States 1-3 in prelims with a 2:11.97. \u00a0<strong>Melanie<\/strong> <strong>Klaren<\/strong> claimed the third seed in the 200 back with a time of 2:12.10.<\/p>\n<p>Bratton just clipped Japan&#8217;s <strong>Yuka<\/strong> <strong>Kawayoke<\/strong> for the top seed as Kawayoke qualified second in 2:11.98.<\/p>\n<p>The top trio definitely have a lot of time to drop to catch <strong>Stephanie<\/strong> <strong>Proud&#8217;s<\/strong> 2009 meet record of 2:08.91.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s <strong>Genevieve<\/strong> <strong>Cantin<\/strong> (2:12.87), Japan&#8217;s <strong>Niki<\/strong> <strong>Takahashi<\/strong> (2:12.19), Canada&#8217;s <strong>Barbara<\/strong> <strong>Rojas<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>Jardin<\/strong> (2:13.79), Czech&#8217;s <strong>Simona<\/strong> <strong>Baumrtova<\/strong> (2:13.95) and France&#8217;s <strong>Camille<\/strong> <strong>Gheorghiu<\/strong> (2:14.02) also made the top eight into semis.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s <strong>Carlotta<\/strong> <strong>Zofkova<\/strong> (2:14.51), Australia&#8217;s <strong>Hayley<\/strong> <strong>White<\/strong> (2:14.59), Hong Kong&#8217;s <strong>Stephanie<\/strong> <strong>Au<\/strong> (2:15.09), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Anastasia<\/strong> <strong>Klyarovskaya<\/strong> (2:15.22), Hong Kong&#8217;s <strong>Claudia<\/strong> <strong>Lau<\/strong> (2:15.23), Germany&#8217;s <strong>Nadine Laemmler<\/strong> (2:15.56), New Zealand&#8217;s <strong>Kate<\/strong> <strong>Godfrey<\/strong> (2:15.74) and Russia&#8217;s <strong>Alexandra<\/strong> <strong>Papusha<\/strong> (2:16.25) earned the other transfer spots into semis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Men&#8217;s 50 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Brazil&#8217;s <strong>Henrique<\/strong> <strong>Martins<\/strong> matched his ninth-ranked season best in the men&#8217;s 50-meter fly with a strong 23.38 for the top swim of the morning. \u00a0Previously, he clocked that time at the Maria Lenk Trophy meet in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n<p>Martins could make a run at <strong>Jason<\/strong> <strong>Dunford&#8217;s<\/strong> 2009 meet record of 23.09 during semis this evening.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s <strong>Piero<\/strong> <strong>Codia<\/strong> (23.70), Belarus&#8217; <strong>Yauhen<\/strong> <strong>Tsurkin<\/strong> (23.71), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Oleg<\/strong> <strong>Kostin<\/strong> (23.89), Russia&#8217;s <strong>Aleksandr<\/strong> <strong>Sadovnikov<\/strong> (23.91) and USA&#8217;s <strong>Matt<\/strong> <strong>Josa<\/strong> (23.95) also cleared 24 seconds to make semis.<\/p>\n<p>China&#8217;s <strong>Shi<\/strong> <strong>Yang<\/strong> (24.05) and USA&#8217;s <strong>Andrew<\/strong> <strong>Seliskar<\/strong> (24.05) tied for the seventh seed to round out the top eight.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s <strong>Marco Belotti <\/strong>(24.20), Japan&#8217;s <strong>Junya<\/strong> <strong>Hasegawa<\/strong> (24.26), South Korea&#8217;s <strong>Haneol Kwon <\/strong>(24.36), Czech&#8217;s <strong>Jan<\/strong> <strong>Sefl<\/strong> (24.39), South Africa&#8217;s <strong>Nico<\/strong> <strong>Mayer<\/strong> (24.43), France&#8217;s <strong>Yonel<\/strong> <strong>Govindin<\/strong> (24.46), Poland&#8217;s <strong>Michal<\/strong> <strong>Poprawa<\/strong> (24.53) and Indonesia&#8217;s <strong>Glenn<\/strong> <strong>Sutanto<\/strong> (24.53) will also try for finals spots during semis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women&#8217;s 400 free relay<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Based on unofficial results, Team USA smoked the rest of the teams in prelims with a 3:40.04.
