{"id":141120,"date":"2015-07-02T14:43:31","date_gmt":"2015-07-02T21:43:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=141120"},"modified":"2015-07-06T14:49:45","modified_gmt":"2015-07-06T21:49:45","slug":"marc-evers-looks-to-defend-titles-at-ipc-worlds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/marc-evers-looks-to-defend-titles-at-ipc-worlds\/","title":{"rendered":"Marc Evers Looks to Defend Titles at IPC Worlds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dutch Paralympic champion <strong>Marc Evers<\/strong> believes he is in the shape of his life as he looks to defend three world titles at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Great Britain, from <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1633489505\"><span class=\"aQJ\">13 July<\/span><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Evers became a world beater back in Montreal, Canada, in 2013 when he won gold in the 100m breaststroke SB14, 200m individual medley SM14 and set a new world record on his way to victory in the 100m backstroke S14.<\/p>\n<p>The 24-year-old stormed to more glory in front of a home crowd in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, at the 2014 Euros, when he grabbed three more titles and yet another world best in the 100m backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>He believes he is ready for Glasgow 2015 and the challenge of facing Iceland&#8217;s fellow world and Paralympic champion <strong>Jon Margeir Sverrisson<\/strong> who has been swimming well in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My preparations are going very fine,&#8221; Evers beamed. &#8220;I&#8217;m fit, feeling very well and trained very hard. I&#8217;m confident to be in my best shape when I&#8217;ll arrive in Glasgow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Evers is one of more than 580 athletes for whom Glasgow 2015 will give the clearest indication yet of their form ahead of Rio 2016, and acts as one of the biggest qualification opportunities for the next Paralympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>The chance to enjoy the world stage once again is something the flying Dutchman knows will stand him in good stead ahead of a busy 12 months.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The World Championships are very important to me,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s only one year before the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, so it&#8217;s a perfect opportunity to test myself on a high level competition.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Evers, who is a proud ambassador for the Dutch Association for Autism, revealed last summer that he gets recognised in public thanks to his successes. But Evers insists he remains focused for the road ahead:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m very confident about the shape I&#8217;m in. There are a lot of opponents from outside of Europe, so the competition will be harder.
