AFTER the second day of competition at the NJCAA Championships in Buffalo, N.Y., Indian River Community College is in a commanding lead of both the men&#39;s and women&#39;s meets.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#39;s meet, IRCC leads with 355 points to second-place Lincoln&#39;s 191 points.  Monroe Community (186), Vincennes University (150) and Genessee Community (85) complete the rest of the top five.<\/p>\n<p>For the men, Indian River finished with 428 points to second-place Lincoln&#39;s 213.  Monroe Community sits in third with 150 points, while Vincennes (126) and Erie Community (61) comprise the rest of the top five.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s One-Meter Finals<\/b><br \/>\nIndian River went 1-2-4 as Kayla Purkiser (460.60), Danielle Mauser (453.50) and Stacey Crawley (375.80) finished first, second and fourth, respectively.  Lincoln&#39;s Amanda Williams placed third with 387.75 points.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s Three-Meter Finals<\/b><br \/>\nIRCC swept the top-two spots as Michael Wright (569.40) and Billy Beauregard (561.85) tussled for the men&#39;s title.  Lincoln&#39;s Alex Morreto completed the top three with 419.75 points.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 freestyle relay<\/b><br \/>\nIndian River kept at it as Shanda Casella, Amanda Neubig, Vanessa Cox and Cortney Place won the race easily in 1:35.85.  The closest finisher, Lincoln&#39;s team of Mekenzie Lewis, Dawn Mason, Gabrielle Klinefelter and Rachel Slattery touched in 1:44.65.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 freestyle relay<\/b><br \/>\nAnother event, another title for IRCC.  Scott Baker, Gideon Louw, Roberto Gomez and Raul Martinez won by 10 seconds with a time of 1:19.14.  Lincoln&#39;s squad of Adam Johnson, Dale Cuffe, Dillon York and Joe Taylor placed a distant second in 1:29.33.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 500 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nIndian River went 1-2 in the middle distance event as Natalia Buso clocked a first-place time of 5:04.67, while Amber Pheil took second in 5:12.22.  Monroe Community&#39;s Caitlin McNamara pocketed third in 5:35.02.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 500 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nIRCC went top two again as Fernando Costa (4:23.57) and Raul Martinez (4:33.02) paced the field.  Lincoln&#39;s Dale Cuffe turned in a third-place time of 4:40.48.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 IM<\/b><br \/>\n1-2 buckle my shoe?  IRCC went 1-2 again.  Kim Martella touched in 2:10.76 for first, while teammate Ana Rubin hit the wall in 2:13.43 for second.  Darton College&#39;s Sara Stewart claimed third in 2:13.90.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 IM<\/b><br \/>\nMonroe Community&#39;s Kazuma Uda finally stopped the 1-2 march for IRCC with a second-place time of 1:53.86.  Meanwhile, Indian River&#39;s Touw Ngie Tjouw won in 1:52.10, while teammate Daniel Munoz finished third in 1:56.77.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 50 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nWith five of the top eight, IRCC consumed massive points in the splash-and-dash.  Amanda Neubig won in 23.49, while Shanda Casella took second in 23.63.  Lincoln&#39;s Rachel Slattery placed third in 24.76.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 50 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nIn a ridiculous show of sprinting prowess, IRCC swept 1-6 in the men&#39;s 50 free.  Gideon Louw (20.07), Roberto Gomez (20.22), LeRoux Pelser (20.45), Scott Baker (20.68), Nick Schwartz (21.08) and Jeff Gaik (21.81) finished in that order.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jason Marsteller BUFFALO, New York, March 8.
