COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 7. THE 2007 Missouri Speedo Sectionals concluded Sunday with two meet records posted during the four-day competition. The Kansas City Blazers captured the team title with 977 points. The CSP Tideriders followed in second with 810.5 points, while Parkway Swim Club finished third in a score of 713. <\/p>\n
Liz Smith and Titus Knight each started a four-event winning steak when they stopped the clock first in the 400-yard individual medley. Smith took the women's event in 4:17.35, while Knight touched in at 4:02.28. Smith then went on to capture the 200-yard individual medley title in meet record time of 1:59.44. Knight also took first in the event, posting a time of 1:51.98. <\/p>\n
Two events later, Smith hit the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke. Her time of 2:11.41 was her second meet record. Smith's final win came in the 100-yard freestyle when she edged Shara Stafford by .08 seconds to take the gold. <\/p>\n
On the last day of competition, Knight proved he had the endurance to finish the meet on top when he recorded a victory in the 1,650-yard freestyle. He swam the event in 15:50.78 to win by 13 seconds. Knight also clocked the fastest time of 4:31.54 in the 500-yard freestyle. <\/p>\n
Herman Louw also had multiple wins throughout the meet. He opened the meet with a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.48). Switching strokes, he demonstrated his speed in the sprint events, winning both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle. Louw swam the events in 20.85 and 45.77, respectively. <\/p>\n
Samantha Woodward also garnered three wins during the four-day competition. Woodward picked up two titles on the first day of sectionals, with the fastest times in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.32) and 100-yard butterfly (54.58). Swimming the 50-yard freestyle immediately after a second-place performance in the 200-yard individual medley, Woodward won the 50-yard freestyle in 23.08. <\/p>\n
Bobby Bollier and Scott Jostes each took home two gold medals. Bollier, a butterfly specialist, was the fastest swimmer in both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events. He completed the 100-yard distance in 49.48 and the distance fly event in 1:50.44. Jostes swept the backstroke events. He recorded a meet record in the 100-yard backstroke to win in 49.49.
