FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — For fifty of the United States\u2019 best divers, four years of preparation will culminate in one week of competition — the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. To be held June 20-25 in Federal Way, Wash. (a suburb of Seattle), the trials will narrow the impressive field down to an eight-member Olympic diving team. In the event of double-qualifying, the team could be as small as four.<\/p>\n
The U.S. Olympic Diving Trials will feature approximately 25 men and 25 women competing for two spots in each of the individual Olympic diving events — men\u2019s and women\u2019s 3-meter springboard and men\u2019s and women\u2019s 10-meter platform. The final team size will range between four and eight, depending on the qualification of divers competing for spots on both boards.<\/p>\n
Following the completion of the trials, the entire Olympic team, together with U.S. Diving officials, will meet to decide the pairings for the synchronized diving events. Synchro diving makes its debut as a full medal sport in Sydney. It features same-gender teams in the synchronized 3-meter and synchronized platform categories performing the same or complementary dives.<\/p>\n
