Cal Baptist used a potent blend of top-flight talent and depth points to claim both the men&#39;s and women&#39;s NAIA Championships held in San Antonio, Texas over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>CBU&#39;s women won with 783.5 points, while Simon Fraser took second with 584 points.  SCAD finished third with 459 points, while Lindenwood (298) and Cumberlands (290.5) closed out the top three.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#39;s meet, Cal Baptist dominated with 937.5 points, while Lindenwood finished second with 499 points.  SCAD picked up another third-place effort with 402 points, while Simon Fraser (384) and Cumberlands (355) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Simon Fraser&#39;s Kathryn Rosberg continued her sensational meet with a 1650 free NAIA record, cutting almost 10 seconds off her previous standard with a time of 16:43.37.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 1650 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nSimon Fraser&#39;s Kathryn Rosberg lowered her 1650 free NAIA record with a time of 16:43.37 to drop nearly 10 seconds off her previous standard of 16:51.80 set in 2005.  Meanwhile, CBU&#39;s Krista Chacon took second in 17:27.80, while Cumberlands&#39; Alex Robertson finished third in 17:40.16.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 backstroke<\/b><br \/>\nCBU&#39;s Nicole Shipman claimed the 200 back title in 2:05.49 with a comeback victory, while Simon Fraser&#39;s Tina Hoang finished second in 2:05.83.  Illinois Tech&#39;s Amanda Babicz took third in 2:08.02.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 backstroke<\/b><br \/>\nLindenwood&#39;s Thomas Bourdin captured another title with a time of 1:48.69, while CBU&#39;s Justin Vergara grabbed second in 1:52.72.  Meanwhile, Cumberlands&#39; Andrzej Lenard finished third in 1:55.75.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 100 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nCal Baptist&#39;s Jenelle Furuto came with less than a second of Simon Fraser&#39;s Sharon Turner&#39;s NAIA record of 51.03 set in 1993 with a winning time of 51.81.  SCAD went 2-3 in the event as Cassie Dixon placed second in 52.28, while Elizabeth Harr took third in 52.29.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 100 freestyle<\/b><br \/>\nAnother NAIA standard nearly fell as CBU&#39;s Russell Thompson clocked a 44.85, within half-a-second of the record time of 44.49 set by Drury&#39;s Kelly Kremer in 1991.  Simon Fraser took the next two spots as Kyle Smerdon placed second in 45.13, while Randall Krall turned in a third-place 46.14.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 breaststroke<\/b><br \/>\nSimon Fraser&#39;s Courtenay Mulhern grabbed the 200 breast title in 2:23.45, while CBU&#39;s Elena Zanone (2:24.60) and Elaine Hunter (2:25.25) placed second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 breaststroke<\/b><br \/>\nSCAD&#39;s Thomas Gibson won a close one with a time of 2:04.51, a mere .05 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Simon Fraser&#39;s Sean Nugent (2:04.56).  CBU&#39;s Sean Moore rounded out the rest of the podium in 2:05.03.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 200 butterfly<\/b><br \/>\nIn another close battle, Asbury&#39;s Kerry Hancock touched first in 2:07.07, while SCAD&#39;s Rachel Fritts finished just behind in 2:07.52.  Simon Fraser&#39;s Addie Kolybaba snared third in 2:08.41.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 200 butterfly<\/b><br \/>\nA pair of swimmers eclipsed the former NAIA record of 1:49.33 set by Oral Roberts&#39; Diego Perdomo in 1991 as CBU&#39;s Jan Tichy set his second standard in as many days with a time of 1:47.48 for the win.  Simon Fraser&#39;s Niels Muntzenburger clocked a second-place time of 1:47.83, while Illinois Tech&#39;s Ryan Feuerstein placed a distant third in 1:51.57.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women&#39;s 400 freestyle relay<\/b><br \/>\nSimon Fraser&#39;s team of Tina Hoang, Kathryn Rosberg, Addie Kolybaba and Jessica Verheyden grabbed the win in 3:28.99, fairly close to the NAIA record of 3:28.49 set by Simon Fraser in 1993.  Meanwhile, SCAD&#39;s contingent of Elizabeth Harr, Emily Cardone-Dennis, Megan Lawless and Cassie Dixon finished second in 3:30.89, while CBU&#39;s foursome of Katelyn Butler, Chelsey Songy, Stephanie Jung and Jenelle Furuto took third in 3:33.36.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men&#39;s 400 freestyle relay<\/b><br \/>\nCal Baptist&#39;s quartet of Jan Tichy, Alan Ogden, Mike Looy and Russell Thompson easily won in 3:02.77, while Simon Fraser&#39;s Randall Krall, Kyle Smerdon, Niels Muntzenburger and Luke Armstrong placed second in 3:05.26.
