PHOENIX, Arizona, March 3. ONE of the most controversial news items of the week came out of the college ranks as a newly-enforced "no open lane" rule in the NCAA rule book was ignored at the ACC and Big 12 Championships. This led to a hasty, but reasonable, decision by the NCAA to allow those times in violation of the rule to be allowed into the NCAA selection process after the original field was selected. Potential financial penalties for both the ACC and Big 12 will be decided at the women's NCAA Division I Championships.<\/p>\n

In other news, senior writer John Lohn checked in with a premium weekend review item, while managing editor Jason Marsteller kept a close eye on zone diving qualifying at the Division I level.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Georgia's Kara Lynn Joyce and Auburn's David Marsh checked in with publisher Brent Rutemiller on Swimming World Radio, while New Jersey Masters swimmer Laura Smith concluded her Day in the Life run.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Newsmaster intern Brian Savard kept busy with even more high school state championship recaps rolled out on a daily basis.<\/p>\n
