{"id":140413,"date":"2015-06-26T19:33:00","date_gmt":"2015-06-27T02:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=140413"},"modified":"2015-06-26T19:34:31","modified_gmt":"2015-06-27T02:34:31","slug":"open-water-star-haley-anderson-doubles-up-in-pool-at-tyr-swim-meet-of-champions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/open-water-star-haley-anderson-doubles-up-in-pool-at-tyr-swim-meet-of-champions\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Water Star Haley Anderson Doubles Up in Pool at TYR Swim Meet of Champions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trojan&#8217;s <strong>Haley Anderson<\/strong> doubled up tonight during an exciting 2015 TYR Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions.<\/p>\n<p>In a highly-anticipated finale, Canyons&#8217; <strong>Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> took down Mission Viejo&#8217;s <strong>Katie McLaughlin<\/strong> in the women&#8217;s 100-meter free.<\/p>\n<p>Weitzeil won in 54.42, the third best swim in her lifetime. \u00a0Her two fastest times are a 54.38 and 54.41 at the 2014 Summer Nationals.<\/p>\n<p>McLaughlin, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-mclaughlin-cracks-top-10-in-200-fly\/\" target=\"_blank\">who smoked prelims in the 200-meter fly with a ninth-ranked 2:07.93 but scratched the event to focus on the 100 tonight<\/a>, put up a personal best in the 100 with a 55.05. \u00a0That&#8217;s better than her 55.33 from the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships, but she likely was hoping to see a 54-second time for the first time in her life.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stanzi Moseley<\/strong> finished third overall in the 100 with a time of 55.30.<\/p>\n<p>Then, in a close competition, <strong>Santo Condorelli<\/strong> clipped Trojan&#8217;s <strong>Cristian Quintero<\/strong>, 49.65 to 49.66, for the men&#8217;s 100-meter free crown. \u00a0<strong>Yuri Kisil<\/strong> closed out the podium with a third-place time of 50.18.<\/p>\n<p>With McLaughlin out of the women&#8217;s 200-meter fly, the door was open for some other people to make some big moves. \u00a0Open water specialist <strong>Haley Anderson<\/strong> of Trojan did just that with a personal best 2:10.84. \u00a0That swim smashed her previous best of 2:13.24 from the 2008 Junior Nationals.<\/p>\n<p>Aquazot&#8217;s <strong>Sonia Wang<\/strong> nipped her lifetime best with a 2:12.60 for second. That&#8217;s a bit better than the 2:12.72 she clocked last summer at Junior Nationals. \u00a0SoCal&#8217;s <strong>Ella Eastin<\/strong> wound up in third in 2:12.98.<\/p>\n<p>With Golden Bear teammate <strong>Tom Shields<\/strong> staying home to work on an injury, <strong>Justin Lynch<\/strong> snatched the men&#8217;s 200-meter fly title in 1:58.43. \u00a0That swim is his second fastest ever behind a lifetime best 1:57.80 from the 2013 Junior Nationals. \u00a0Mission Viejo&#8217;s <strong>Grant Shoults<\/strong> hit the wall second in 1:59.15 for a small personal best of his own (1:59.24 from last summer). \u00a0Aquazot&#8217;s <strong>Corey Okubo<\/strong> touched third in 2:00.80.<\/p>\n<p>HMST&#8217;s <strong>Erin Earley<\/strong> claimed the women&#8217;s 200-meter back in a time of 2:11.62. \u00a0That swim is her third best ever, behind a pair of 2:10.9s from the last two Marches. <strong>Brooklynn Snodgrass<\/strong> checked in with a second-place time of 2:13.62, while Trojan&#8217;s <strong>Hannah Weiss<\/strong> took third in 2:13.78.<\/p>\n<p>Aquazot&#8217;s <strong>Corey Okubo<\/strong> (2:02.55) and <strong>Danny Tran<\/strong> (2:03.03) finished first and second in the men&#8217;s 200-meter backstroke. \u00a0Nitro&#8217;s <strong>Gus Whiteman<\/strong> placed third in 2:04.19.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson had a big night as she followed her 200 fly lifetime best with the second victory of the night with a 4:12.33 in the 400-meter free. \u00a0That&#8217;s nearly an in-season best for her, off a 4:11.96 from the 2014 Los Angeles Invitational. \u00a0<strong>Allie Davis<\/strong> placed second tonight in 4:13.07 with Mission Viejo&#8217;s <strong>Samantha Shelton<\/strong> taking third in 4:14.72.<\/p>\n<p>Trojan&#8217;s <strong>Mads Glaesner<\/strong> threw down a time of 3:49.91 to win the men&#8217;s 400-meter free. \u00a0Shoults placed second in 3:54.16, while Nitro&#8217;s<strong> Sean Grieshop<\/strong> earned third in 3:54.40.<\/p>\n<p>The meet is named after former Mission Viejo Nadador <strong>Fran Crippen<\/strong>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/passages-fran-crippen-26-fina-usa-swimming-usoc-release-statements-updated\/\" target=\"_blank\">who died during an open water race in 2010<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"\/results\/2015-tyr-swim-meet-of-champions-fran-crippen-memorial-day-2-day-2\/usa-senior-national\/2015\/June\/25\" target=\"_blank\">2015 TYR Swim Meet of Champions Fran Crippen Memorial, Day 2 &#8211; Results<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trojan&#8217;s Haley Anderson doubled up tonight during an exciting 2015 TYR Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions.
