AFTER the third day of competition at the 2007 Pac-10 Men&#39;s Championships, the second-ranked Stanford Cardinal tallied 655.5 team points, remaining in the first place position, while posting a total of three individual champions, three relay titles and 10 NCAA automatic qualifying times.<\/p>\n<p>The Arizona Wildcats climbed into the second place position after three days of competition with 433 points, taking a four point edge over the third-place California Golden Bears (429 points). USC is currently in fourth place (343.5 points), ASU is in fifth (266 points) and Washington is in sixth (144 points).<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We are just starting to taper for the NCAA Championships,&quot; California head swimming coach Nort Thorton said. &quot;Our team has been trying some different rotations at this meet and we found some that work. So we&#39;ll just keep working tomorrow to get people qualified.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Arizona State captured the top two spots of the 400 IM to begin this evening&#39;s action, as sophomore Gal Nevo finished first with an NCAA consideration time of 3:47.50 and junior CJ Nuess finished second with a consideration time of 3:48.43. Cal&#39;s junior Mark Eckert finished third in the event with a time of 3:49.52.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford&#39;s senior Ben Wildman-Tobriner tallied his second individual title of the meet in the 100 fly with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 46.00. Freshman Nathan Adrian of Cal finished second with and automatic qualifying time of 46.81 and sophomore Jason Dunford of Stanford came in third (46.89).<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I think that the team is doing pretty well at this meet,&quot; Wildman_Tobriner said. &quot;We use this meet to get prepared for the NCAA Championships and we are doing what we came here to do. I feel like I am personally accomplishing what I cam here to do as well, and that the focus of our team is not maintaining the lead, but getting some key guys qualified for NCAAs. As a senior leader I feel it is my job tomorrow to go out there and support my teammates.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Junior Dominik Meichitry of Cal won the 200 free with a time of 1:33.82,as Stanford&#39;s Andy Grant finished second (1:34.46) and Arizona&#39;s Nicolas Nilo finished third (1:34.78), each posting an NCAA automatic qualifying time.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Paul Kornfled of Stanford posted the second conference title of his career in the 100 breast, winning with an automatic qualifying time of 52.75. Mihaly Flaskay of USC finished second in the event (53.61) and Stanford&#39;s Nate Cass finished third (53.97).<\/p>\n<p>In the 100 back, Cal&#39;s sophomore David Russell won the event posting an automatic qualifying time of 46.93. Stanford&#39;s senior Hongzhe Sun, who was the 2006 champion in this event, finished second with a time of 47.08, while Arizona&#39;s junior Albert Subirats placed third (47.41).<\/p>\n<p>For the final event of the evening, Stanford captured their third relay title in the 400 medley relay, as Sun, Kornfeld, Dunford and Wildman-Tobriner posted an automatic qualifying time of 3:07.32.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona finished second in the event, as Subirats, junior Ivan Barnes, Nilo and senior Adam Ritter posted an automatic qualifying time of 3:10.84, while USC&#39;s senior Viktor Bodrogi, Flaskay, senior Sam Masson and senior Sean Sussex finished third (3:12.07).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FEDERAL WAY, Washington, February 23.
