GRAND FORKS, North Dakota, February 22. NORTH Dakota won all the day's swimming events and lead both the men's and women's division after the second day at the NCC Swimming & Diving Championships. On the women's side, North Dakota holds a 317 to 218 advantage over Nebraska-Omaha while the UND men hold a 439 to 218.5 lead over second-place St. Cloud State. The meet continues with a full slate of action Friday and Saturday. The morning session each day will consist of preliminaries with finals being held in the evening session.<\/p>\n
It was a record-setting day at the pool with three records bettered, including the women's 50 freestyle that was bettered four times in the day.<\/p>\n
In the morning prelims, the women's 50-meter freestyle NCC record time of :23.62 which was set by Nebraska-Omaha's Sarah Clark in 2005 was bettered twice. First Madonna Dorsher of North Dakota swam a :23.28 and then Stacy Bjorlie of South Dakota posted a time of :23.39, which would have been a new record had it not been for Dorsher's performace two heats earlier. Then the duo of Dorsher and UND's Carissa Gormally teamed up to tie for a new NCC record in the finals session with a :23.20 time.<\/p>\n
The evening session started in record style with both NCC 200 medley relay records falling. On the women's side the North Dakota team of Cathryn DeShaw, Carissa Gormally, Allison Maxwell and Madonna Dorsher posted a time of 1:44.48 to set the new record, eclipsing the old mark of 1:46.97 set by North Dakota in 1999.<\/p>\n
Not to be outdone, the UND men did the same when Rodrigo Ferriera, Dan Hansen, Per Westergren and Eric Knight covered the 200 medley relay distance in 1:30.66 to better the 1:30.68 set by UND in 2004.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
