BUFFALO, New York, February 22. THE Eastern Michigan University men's swimming and diving team started off the first day of competition at the 2007 Mid-American Conference Championships on the right foot, here Thursday night at Alumni Arena Natatorium. The Eagles lead the field with an over total of 328 points, ahead of second place Miami (233.5). Dan Wohl won his fourth consecutive MAC title 200-yard IM, and five Eagles placed in the top six in the 50-yard freestyle race. <\/p>\n
In the meet opening event, EMU's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Derrick Roe, Ethan Crabtree, Michael Rowland and Preston Revere took home first place honors setting a pool record after clocking in at 1:20.91. <\/p>\n
The Eagles had five swimmers place in the top seven during the 500-yard freestyle race. Jason Piercey (4:25.66) finished second and was followed by Steven Bowling (4:32.25) and Jeff Montague (4:32.34). Dan Kish (4:34.09) and Steven Hill (4:36.44) placed sixth and seventh respectively. <\/p>\n
In the 200-yard IM race Wohl took home first place honors for the fourth straight year. His time of 1:49.80 set a new pool record. Don Ellsion finished second in 1:51.66, while Mark Kurtzer placed 11th. <\/p>\n
In the 50-yard freestyle race, five Eagles placed in the top six with Roe (20.23) taking home first place. Revere (20.50) finished second, Rowland third (20.65), Crabtree (21.01) and Andy Gantzer finished sixth in 21.21. <\/p>\n
Matt Guinan (294.05), Josh Olsen (280.20) and Mitch Kellerman (269.05) finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively in the one-meter diving event. <\/p>\n
The 400-yard medley relay team of Andrezej Olesinski, Wohl, Revere and Roe capture first place with a 3:21.70 time. <\/p>\n
EMU will continue competition at the 2007 MAC Swimming and Diving Championships tomorrow, Feb, 23, at Alumni Arena. The 200-yard medley relay, 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke and 800-yard freestyle relay are the scheduled events for day two with the preliminary round for swimming starting at noon and diving at 2 p.m., with finals slated for 7 p.m. <\/p>\n
