THE Wayne State men&#39;s and women&#39;s teams are in first place through the first day of competition at the GLIAC Championship, hosted by Ashland University.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#39;s meet, the Warriors totaled 151 points on Wednesday, 49 points ahead of Grand Valley State. The host Eagles are in third place (76), followed by Lewis (59), Gannon (56), and Indianapolis (50).<\/p>\n<p>Wayne State successfully defended its conference title in the 200 medley relay, as the foursome of Luiz Pacheco (Curitiba, Brazil), Christer Tour (Farsta, Sweden), Bruno Blanco (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), and Tiago Oliveira (Raul Soares, Brazil) turned in a time of 1:32.00, setting WSU, GLIAC, and pool records.<\/p>\n<p>Guilherme Veiga (Vinton, Va.\/William Byrd) won the 1650 freestyle for the second straight year, setting a pool record and narrowly missing a GLIAC record with a time of 15:49.99. Jared Troyer (Portage, Mich.\/Central), James Ekleberry (Rochester Hills, Mich.\/Avondale), and Matt Leix (Flint, Mich.\/Southwestern) finished fourth (16:06.65), fifth (16:14.31), and sixth (16:18.15), respectively, while David Fontecchio (Rochester Hills, Mich.\/Rochester Adams) came in 16th place (17:53.94).<\/p>\n<p>In the three-meter diving competition, freshman Cayce Bolt (Royal Oak, Mich.\/Warren Mott) won with a pool-record score of 449.77. Chris Totten (Garden City, Mich.) came in third (419.90), and Dan Fleming (Portage, Mich.\/Northern) finished seventh (357.30).<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#39;s meet, Indianapolis (57) trails the Warriors (76) and Lakers (69), followed by the host Eagles (48), Gannon (40), Lewis (37), Northern Michigan (31), Hillsdale (30), and Findlay (21).<\/p>\n<p>The WSU quartet of Katie Harrigan (Portage, Mich.\/Northern), Amber Staudacher (Rockford, Mich.), Laura Leix (Flint, Mich.\/Southwestern), and Julie Danaher (Allen Park, Mich.) finished in fourth place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:49.04, setting a new WSU record by .04 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Melissa Duff set a pool record with her first-place time of 17:31.19 in the 1650 freestyle, successfully defending her conference title in the mile-long event.
