FEDERAL WAY, Washington, February 21. IN Stanford's quest to take its 26th straight conference title, the Cardinals took an early lead after the first day of competition at the 2007 Pac-10 Championships with 561 points.<\/p>\n
Only 12 points separate the first and second place team, as Cal is in second with 549 points, Arizona is in third with 546 points, USC is in fourth (540) and ASU is in fifth (507).<\/p>\n
Starting off this evening's action was the 200 medley relay with Stanford's senior Hongzhe Sun, sophomore Paul Kornfeld, sophomore Jason Dunford and senior Ben Wildman-Tobriner finished first with a time of 1:26.07. Cal's sophomore David Russell, junior Richard Hunter, junior Jernej Godec and junior William Copeland finished second (1:26.73), while Arizona's junior Albert Subirats, junior Ivan Barnes, sophomore Nicolas Nilo and freshman Jordan Smith finished third (1:27.08)<\/p>\n
Arizona won the 800 free relay to finish the night's events, as senior Adam Ritter, Nilo, freshman Jean Basson and junior Darian Townsend finished with a time of 6:20.08. Stanford's senior Andy Grant, junior Danny Beal, sophomore Phillip Morrison and senior Shaun Phillips finished second (6:21.47) and Cal's freshman Nathan Adrian, senior Daniel Lysaught, junior Dominik Meightry and junior Louis Vayo came in third.<\/p>\n
The meet will continue Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. Prelims will begin at 11 a.m. (PST) and finals will start at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
