MORGANTOWN, West Virginia, February 23. PARKERSBURG sophomore Tim Phillips stole the spotlight in the West Virginia State High School meet, capturing two titles and two state records.<\/p>\n
Phillips paced the 200 freestyle field. He turned in a 48.10 100 split before beating the second-place finisher by nearly nine seconds (1:41.87). His swim reset his own mark set at last year's state meet (1:44.42). Phillips swam a 46.29 in his 100 freestyle, resetting the former record of 46.35 set by Chris Hagedorn from Robert C. Byrd in 2002.<\/p>\n
South Charleston sophomore Travis Green added to the record-setting performances. His 500 freestyle swim (4:36.90) bested the former standard set last year by Todd McGraw of Woodrow Wilson. Green also won the 100 butterfly in 53.20.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Matt Logan of Williamstown rounded out the double event winners with victories in both the 200 IM (2:02.24) and the 100 backstroke (55.04).<\/p>\n
Fairmont Senior took home the gold medal in both freestyle relays. Junior Ross Lawson, senior Conn Laughlin, freshman Andrew Bonasso and junior Hunter Murray captured the 200 freestyle relay title (1:34.26) while Bonasso, senior Brett Parker, sophomore Jonathan Turner and Murray won the 400 freestyle relay (3:23.32).<\/p>\n
On the women's side, senior Sarah Supcoe of George Washington won two events. Supcoe won both the 200 IM (2:14.36) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.60).<\/p>\n
Bridgeport's women's team won two relays. The quartet of freshman Laura Alvarez, junior Arielle Stafford, sophomore Caitlin Steele and sophomore Whitney Rhoads took home the gold in the medley relay (1:57.34) while junior Natalie Howard, Stafford, Alvarez and Rhoads teamed up for a 1:45.27 time.<\/p>\n
In the men's competition, Fairmont Senior took home the team title. Parkersburg and Hurricane placed second and third overall, respectively. <\/p>\n
The women's team title went to Morgantown. Bridgeport and George Washington took home the second and third place honors, respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
