FAIRFAX, Virginia, February 17. WILLIAM & Mary's women's swimming & diving team was crowned the Colonial Athletic Association Champion after the completion of the four day competition with a score of 623, while UNC Wilmington's men's team won its sixth-straight title with a total of 573 points. The Tribe won their first swimming and diving title in school history.<\/p>\n
In the 1,650-yard freestyle, Mason senior Tom Koucheravy placed first as he registered an NCAA \u2018A-Cut' qualifying time of 15:04.87, which is also a new CAA meet record. Koucheravy, who tied James Madison's Russell Smyth in point total on the week with 60, was named CAA Men's Most Outstanding Swimmer for his efforts at the championship. This marks the third-straight year in which Koucheravy has earned this honor. Joe Houchin also took home a gold medal for the Patriots as he posted a time of 1:49.54 in the 200 butterfly.<\/p>\n
Old Dominion's Patrik Balint captured the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:48.73, while Eric Boyer of UNCW placed first in the 100 free (44.96). Smyth won the 200 breast with a time of 2:02.89, while Old Dominion's 400 free relay team finished first with a time of 3:02.96. Brett Molash of Drexel earned the gold in the 3-meter diving event (375.35).<\/p>\n
The Tribe's women's team, which led for the past three days, placed first in four of the five events during the Saturday finals round. The Tribe's Katie Radloff set a new CAA meet record in the 100-yard freestyle with an NCAA \u2018B-Cut' qualifying time of 49.66 and earned the Women's Most Outstandings Swimmer award. Teammate Kelly Reitz also recorded an NCAA \u2018B-Cut' qualifying time in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.72). Erin Welshofer won the 200 butterfly for the Tribe in a time of 2:03.36, while W&M's 400 free relay team set a new CAA Meet and a CAA top performance record in an NCAA \u2018B-Cut qualifying time of 3:24.84.<\/p>\n
Drexel's Kate Hynes earned the CAA Women's Most Outstanding Diver award and teammate Brett Molash collected the same honors on the men's side. William & Mary's McGee Moody was named the CAA Women's Swimming Coach of the Year, while JMU's Chris Fester was honored the CAA Men's Swimming Coach of the Year.
