Both swam in the final prelim heat, where Phelps commanded the lead after backstroke. Kalisz took a slim lead after breaststroke and held on to take the top seed with a 2:00.75. Phelps qualified second with a 2:00.77. The two will have to go under 1:58.73 to get into the global top 10 rankings. <strong>Ryan Lochte&#8217;s<\/strong> 1:57.20 stands as the fastest American time in the world, ranked third globally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thiago Pereira<\/strong> was tapped to also be a contender in the final, but was disqualified. Rouding out the top nine will be: <strong>Josh Prenot<\/strong> (2:03.34), 400 IM winner <strong>Gunnar Bentz<\/strong> (2:03.43), <strong>Max Williamson<\/strong> (2:03.45), <strong>Mohamed Hussein<\/strong> (2:04.10), <strong>Alex Lebed<\/strong> (2:04.85), <strong>Dylan Bosch<\/strong> (2:04.97) and <strong>Michael Meyer<\/strong> (2:05.04). She posted a 2:09.83 this morning, and will target her lifetime best of 2:06.81 from last month. There&#8217;s also the Hungarian record of 2:06.61 by the legendary <strong>Krisztina Egerszegi<\/strong> on the line, and Missy Franklin&#8217;s U.S. Open record of 2:05.68 might also get a push.<\/p>\n<p>Franklin will also be in the final as the third seed after posting a comfortable 2:12.14 in the heats. <strong>Maya DiRado<\/strong> qualified second with a 2:11.19, not far off her own lifetime best. Clary will be looking to beat his season best of 1:58.43 from the Arena Pro Swim Series in Charlotte. A faster time would get him into the global top 15.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong>, already ranked ninth in the world with a 1:56.91 from the Austin leg of the Arena pro Swim Series, posted a 2:00.58 to sit second. Colombian <strong>Omar Pinzon<\/strong> swam a 2:00.75 for third, while <strong>Connor Green<\/strong> took fourth spot with a 2:01.40.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matt Grevers<\/strong>, known more for his 100 backstroke prowess, qualified fifth with a 2:01.52. <strong>Jacob Pebley<\/strong> (2:01.89), <strong>Michael Taylor<\/strong> (2:02.26) and <strong>Tristan Sanders<\/strong> (2:02.49) took sixth through eighth. <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong> might be happy that there are nine lanes at the George Haines International Aquatic Center, as he qualified ninth with a 2:03.01.
