THE Washington and Lee men&#39;s swimming team competed in the first day of the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championships on Thursday evening. The Generals are in first place after the initial day of competition.  The Johns Hopkins women&#39;s swim team opened its title defense at the 2007 Blue Grass Mountain Conference Championships ahead of the competition. <\/p>\n<p>The Generals were led by junior Tim McGlaston (Attleboro, Mass.\/Attleboro), who took second in the 50 free with an NCAA &quot;B&quot; cut time of 21.01 and led of the school-recording setting 200 free relay, which finished with an NCAA &quot;A&quot; cut time of 1:22.94. McGlaston was joined on the relay by seniors Mike Ginder (Jacksonville, Fla.\/Episcopal) and Dave Croushore (Glen Allen, Va.\/North Penn), and junior Alex Sweet (Louisville, Ky.\/Kentucky Country Day).<\/p>\n<p>Ginder and Sweet, along with freshman Winston Stagg (Midlothian, Va.\/Maggie L. Walker Governor&#39;s School) and senior Kevin Hayes (Mercer Island, Wash.\/Mercer Island), took first in the 400 medley relay with a school-record and NCAA &quot;B&quot; cut time of 3:27.98.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore Paul Crook (Nashville, Tenn.\/Montgomery Bell) rounded out the school-record setting performances with his first-place finish in the 500 free in a NCAA &quot;B&quot; cut time of 4:33.86<\/p>\n<p>WThe Blue Jays opened with a second place finish in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:39.06. Sophomore Kristin Cunningham (North Potomac, MD) swam the first leg of the relay. Juniors Erica Pakkala (Lititz, PA\/Warwick) and Val Neff-Rasmussen (Ann Arbor, MI\/Pioneer) followed Cunningham with sophomore Jackie Rooney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL\/The Culver Academies) swimming the final leg. The 1:39.06 was the best this season for the Blue Jays in the 200 Free Relay.<\/p>\n<p>Stautner then won the 500 Free, finishing in a career best time of 5:06.40. Sophomore Kate Hansen (Berkeley Heights, NJ\/Governor Livingston) placed third with a time of 5:13.20, also a career best time. Sophomore Megan Zepp (Montgomery Village, MD\/Stone Ridge) also finished in a career best time, placing fourth with a time of 5:16.90. Freshman Julia Senerth (Lawrence, NJ\/Lawrence) won the B Final and finished ninth overall with a time of 5:24.40 with freshman Ashley Lopes (Lexington, MA\/Lexington) finishing in 16th overall with a time of 5:39.68. <\/p>\n<p>Senior Allie Foster (Pennington, NJ\/Hopewell Valley Central) finished in second in the 200 IM with a career best time of 2:09.95. Freshman Lisa Qu (Atlanta, GA\/Westminster) took fifth with a time of 2:14.05 and freshman Caitlin Dennis (Moorestown, NJ\/Merion Mercy Academy) took sixth in 2:14.66 &#8211; both career best times.<\/p>\n<p>Cunningham then placed second in the 50 Free with a time of 24.66. Neff-Rasmussen won the B Final and was ninth overall with a time of 25.33, a career best time. Rooney finished in 10th, coming in at 25.38. Freshman Sarah Thomas (Portsmouth, NH\/St. Thomas Aquinas) took 14th in 26.00 and Pakkala finished in 15th in 26.07. Hopkins closed out the first day with a second place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. Pakkala swam the first leg, with Foster, Cu and Cunningham following for a time of 3:56.76.
