Women’s 200 fly<\/strong><\/p>\n

Katinka Hosszu<\/strong>, a day after downing the 400 IM U.S. Open mark<\/a>, dominated prelims of the 200 fly with a time of 2:09.70. \u00a0She’s been faster this year with a 10th-ranked 2:08.00 from Charlotte, but she was more than three seconds faster than the rest of the field this morning.<\/p>\n

Gold’s Lauren Case<\/strong> qualified second overall in 2:13.12, while Gator’s Andreina Pinto<\/strong> put up a third-seeded 2:14.26.<\/p>\n

Noelle Tarazona<\/strong> (2:14.55) and Kelsey Leneave<\/strong> (2:14.58) picked up fourth and fifth out of prelims.<\/p>\n

West Vancouver’s Emily Overholt<\/strong> (2:15.25), Mexico’s Diana Luna Sanchez<\/strong> (2:15.26), Stanford’s Ally Howe<\/strong> (2:15.35) and Argentina’s Virginia Bardach<\/strong> (2:15.36) also powered their way into the A final.<\/p>\n

The men’s 200-meter fly A final will be loaded tonight with some of the biggest names in swimming.<\/p>\n
Longhorn’s Clark Smith<\/strong>, coming off a breakthrough short course season for Texas, led qualifying with a time of 1:58.22. That’s his second-fastest time ever behind a lifetime best of 1:57.15 from last month.<\/p>\n
NBAC’s Chase Kalisz<\/strong> also cleared 1:59 with a second-seeded 1:58.64 as he looks to shake off some shoulder issues he encountered yesterday that drove him out of the 400 IM A final.<\/p>\n
NBAC’s Michael Phelps<\/strong>, still on the comeback trail, qualified third in 1:58.90 as he should be in the mix for a medal this evening. Phelps’ prelim swim in the event in Charlotte was a 2:00.64.<\/p>\n
California’s Tom Shields<\/strong> (1:59.05), Stanford’s Bobby Bollier<\/strong> (1:59.96), SwimMAC’s Tyler Clary<\/strong> (2:00.25), Dynamo’s Gunnar Bentz<\/strong> (2:00.42), Club Wolverine’s Kyle Whitaker<\/strong> (2:00.49) and FIAT’s Kaio Almeida<\/strong> (2:00.54) also picked up transfer spots into the A final.<\/p>\n

Stanford’s Simone Manuel<\/strong> paced prelims with a 25.19, just a bit outside the top 10 currently anchored by Aliaksandra Herasimenia’s<\/strong> 24.72 from Russian Nationals.<\/p>\n
Femke Heemskerk<\/strong>, the top-ranked swimmer here in Santa Clara with an eighth-ranked 24.57 from the Eindhoven Swim Cup, qualified second in 25.24.<\/p>\n
Tucson Ford’s Margo Geer<\/strong> turned in a time of 25.32 for the third seed, while SwimMAC’s Madison Kennedy<\/strong> qualified fourth in 25.38.<\/p>\n
California’s Natalie Coughlin<\/strong>, fresh off a 50 back American record, qualified fifth in 25.41.<\/p>\n
Etiene Medeiros<\/strong>, ranked 11th in the world with a 24.78, put up a 25.42 to qualify sixth.<\/p>\n
Stanford’s Lia Neal<\/strong> (25.57), California’s Farida Osman<\/strong> (25.67) and Wisconsin’s Ivy Martin<\/strong> (25.77) also made the final.<\/p>\n

Tucson Ford’s Brad Tandy<\/strong> popped a second-seeded effort of 22.52, while Trojan’s Vlad Morozov<\/strong> qualified third in 22.54. \u00a0Morozov is second in the world with a 21.65 from Russian Nationals, behind only Florent Manaudou’s<\/strong> 21.57.<\/p>\n
California’s Nathan Adrian<\/strong> clocked in with a fourth-seeded 22.62, while FIAT’s Italo Duarte<\/strong> posted a fifth-seeded 22.73.<\/p>\n
California’s Anthony Ervin<\/strong> (22.74), FIAT’s Henrique Martins<\/strong> (22.80), Trojan’s Nikita Lobintsev<\/strong> (22.86) and Auburn’s Marcelo Chierighini<\/strong> (22.91) will also battle for the sprint title tonight.<\/p>\n

That’s only a second off her fifth-ranked season best of 59.47 from the Charlotte stop of the Arena Pro Swim Series.<\/p>\n
Colorado Stars’ Missy Franklin<\/strong> could be in position to challenge for gold tonight after qualifying second in 1:01.29, while former California teammate Rachel Bootsma<\/strong> posted a 1:01.30 for the third seed.<\/p>\n
Club Wolverine’s Ali Deloof<\/strong> hit the wall fourth this morning with a 1:01.83, while California’s Elizabeth Pelton<\/strong> snared fifth in 1:01.85.<\/p>\n

Murphy clocked a time of 54.69 to lead all qualifying, and has about a second to drop to get into the top 10 in the world currently anchored by Camille Lacourt<\/strong> with a 53.60.<\/p>\n
NYAC’s David Plummer<\/strong> qualified second in 55.11, while Club Wolverine’s Junya Koga<\/strong> touched third in 55.21.<\/p>\n
Tucson Ford’s Matt Grevers<\/strong>, the top ranked swimmer here with a fifth-ranked 53.27 from Austin, earned fourth this morning in 55.50.<\/p>\n
California’s Jacob Pebley<\/strong> (55.75), Tucson Ford’s Nick Thoman<\/strong> (55.92), PASA’s Eugene Godsoe<\/strong> (55.99), RAC’s Mohamed Hussein<\/strong> (56.02) and Argentina’s Federico Grabich<\/strong> (56.04) finished fifth through ninth to make the championship field.<\/p>\n

Smith powered his way to a time of 23.65, just outside the top 10 in the world shared by Konrad Czerniak<\/strong> and Vlad Morozov<\/strong> with 23.43s.<\/p>\n
FIAT’s Henrique Martins<\/strong> touched second this morning in 23.77, also close to the top 10, while Trojan’s Dylan Carter<\/strong> qualified third in 24.09.<\/p>\n
