That&#8217;s his second-fastest time ever behind a lifetime best of 1:57.15 from last month.<\/p>\n<p>NBAC&#8217;s <strong>Chase Kalisz<\/strong> also cleared 1:59 with a second-seeded 1:58.64 as he looks to shake off some shoulder issues he encountered yesterday that drove him out of the 400 IM A final.<\/p>\n<p>NBAC&#8217;s <strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong>, still on the comeback trail, qualified third in 1:58.90 as he should be in the mix for a medal this evening. Phelps&#8217; prelim swim in the event in Charlotte was a 2:00.64.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s <strong>Tom Shields<\/strong> (1:59.05), Stanford&#8217;s <strong>Bobby Bollier<\/strong> (1:59.96), SwimMAC&#8217;s <strong>Tyler Clary<\/strong> (2:00.25), Dynamo&#8217;s <strong>Gunnar Bentz<\/strong> (2:00.42), Club Wolverine&#8217;s <strong>Kyle Whitaker<\/strong> (2:00.49) and FIAT&#8217;s <strong>Aliaksandra Herasimenia&#8217;s<\/strong> 24.72 from Russian Nationals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Femke Heemskerk<\/strong>, the top-ranked swimmer here in Santa Clara with an eighth-ranked 24.57 from the Eindhoven Swim Cup, qualified second in 25.24.<\/p>\n<p>Tucson Ford&#8217;s <strong>Margo Geer<\/strong> turned in a time of 25.32 for the third seed, while SwimMAC&#8217;s <strong>Madison Kennedy<\/strong> qualified fourth in 25.38.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s <strong>Natalie Coughlin<\/strong>, fresh off a 50 back American record, qualified fifth in 25.41.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Etiene Medeiros<\/strong>, ranked 11th in the world with a 24.78, put up a 25.42 to qualify sixth.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford&#8217;s <strong>Lia Neal<\/strong> (25.57), California&#8217;s <strong>Farida of swimmers set to compete.<\/p>\n<p>Auburn&#8217;s <strong>Bruno Fratus<\/strong>, the third-ranked swimmer in the world with a 21.74, led the way in 22.34.<\/p>\n<p>Tucson Ford&#8217;s<strong> Brad Tandy<\/strong> popped a second-seeded effort of 22.52, while Trojan&#8217;s <strong>Vlad Morozov<\/strong> qualified third in 22.54. \u00a0Morozov is second in the world with a 21.65 from Russian Nationals, behind only <strong>Florent Manaudou&#8217;s<\/strong> 21.57.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s <strong>Nathan Adrian<\/strong> clocked in with a fourth-seeded 22.62, while FIAT&#8217;s <strong>Italo Duarte<\/strong> posted a fifth-seeded 22.73.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s<strong> Anthony Ervin<\/strong> (22.74), FIAT&#8217;s <strong>Henrique Martins<\/strong> (22.80), Trojan&#8217;s California teammate <strong>Rachel Bootsma<\/strong> posted a 1:01.30 for the third seed.<\/p>\n<p>Club Wolverine&#8217;s <strong>Ali Deloof<\/strong> hit the wall fourth this morning with a 1:01.83, <strong>Junya Koga<\/strong> touched third in 55.21.<\/p>\n<p>Tucson Ford&#8217;s <strong>Matt Grevers<\/strong>, the top ranked swimmer here with a fifth-ranked 53.27 from Austin, earned fourth this
