{"id":137432,"date":"2015-06-19T09:39:43","date_gmt":"2015-06-19T16:39:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=137432"},"modified":"2015-06-19T10:36:53","modified_gmt":"2015-06-19T17:36:53","slug":"emma-mckeon-wins-twice-in-first-night-of-australia-grand-prix-in-townsville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/emma-mckeon-wins-twice-in-first-night-of-australia-grand-prix-in-townsville\/","title":{"rendered":"Emma McKeon Wins Twice in First Night of Australia Grand Prix in Townsville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Grand Prix in Townsville kicked off yesterday with <strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong> setting a new Grand Prix record of 57.71 in the women&#8217;s 100 fly. <strong>Alicia Coutts<\/strong> (58.54) and <strong>Sehyeon An<\/strong> (59.10) followed her to the wall.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 400 free showed <strong>Mack Horton<\/strong> and <strong>Matthew Stanley<\/strong> racing to the finish. Horton managed to out-swim Stanley in the final 50 of the race for a time of 3:52.55. Stanley was second with a 3:52.72 while <strong>Grant Hackett<\/strong> took third with a 3:53.39.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong> took first in the women&#8217;s 200 back with a time of 2:09.54 putting her only .48 seconds off <strong>Meagan Nay<\/strong>&#8216;s 2008 record of 2:09.06. <strong>Madison Wilson<\/strong> took second with a 2:10.05, while <strong>Kaylee McKeown<\/strong> took third with a 2:12.04.<\/p>\n<p>In the men&#8217;s 200 breaststroke it was <strong>Jared Gilliland<\/strong> and <strong>George Schroder<\/strong> battling for the first-place finish. The two split\u00a0increasingly close 50&#8217;s the entire race but it was Gilliland who won out. He touched the wall with a 2:16.29 over Schroder&#8217;s 2:16.46. <strong>Matthew Treloar<\/strong> took third with a 2:17.68.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tessa Wallace<\/strong> neared <strong>Kanako Watanabe<\/strong>&#8216;s 2015 Grand Prix record of 2:12.51 in the women&#8217;s 200 IM with a time of 2:12.73. She was followed to the wall by <strong>Xinyi Chen<\/strong> (2:14.66) and <strong>Keryn McMaster<\/strong> (2:15.01).<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Morgan<\/strong> claimed gold in the men&#8217;s 200 fly with a time of 2:00.43. <strong>Keiran Qaium<\/strong> and <strong>Shaun Burnett<\/strong> battled for second but it was Qaium who claimed the silver with a 2:01.36. Burnett finished with a time of 2:01.55.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mitch Larkin<\/strong> took first in the men&#8217;s 100 backstroke with a time of 54.35. <strong>Joshua Beaver<\/strong> was second with a 55.63, while <strong>Benjamin Treffers<\/strong> took third with a 55.83.<\/p>\n<p>It was a close race between <strong>Georgia Bohl<\/strong> and <strong>Lorna Tonks<\/strong> in the women&#8217;s 100 breaststroke with the two splitting only .02 apart on the first 50. Bohl was able to widen the gap ever so slightly in the final 50 of the race finishing with a winning time of 1:08.33. Tonks took second with a 1:08.47. Wallace was third with a 1:08.53.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thomas Fraser-Holmes<\/strong> soared to first in the men&#8217;s 400 IM with a time of 4:16.94. <strong>Kazim Boskovic<\/strong> took second with a 4:21.80, while <strong>Nathan Capp<\/strong> was third with a 4:26.04.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jessica Ashwood<\/strong>\u00a0claimed first and a new Grand Prix record in the women&#8217;s 1500 free with a time of 15:56.86 replacing Melissa Gordon&#8217;s 2010 record of 16:01.53. This makes Ashwood the first Australian woman to ever go under the 16-minute mark.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cameron McEvoy<\/strong> finished first in the men&#8217;s 100 free with a 49.20, only .09 behind his own Grand Prix record of 49.11 from 2014. <strong>Kenneth To<\/strong> took second with a 49.73 and <strong>Will Copeland<\/strong> finished third with a 49.96.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Emma McKeon<\/strong> grabbed her second win in the women&#8217;s 200 free with a time of 1:57.76, finishing almost an entire second ahead of the competition. <strong>Bronte Barratt<\/strong> took second with a 1:58.73, while <strong>Jessica Ashwood<\/strong> was third with a 2:00.92.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-australia-grand-prix-townsville-day-1\/international-elite\/2015\/June\/19\" target=\"_blank\">2015 Australia Grand Prix-Townsville &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Grand Prix in Townsville kicked off yesterday with Emma McKeon setting a new Grand Prix record of 57.71 in the women&#8217;s 100 fly.
