WHEATON College finished day two of the College Conference of Illinois &#038; Wisconsin (CCIW) Swimming Championships the same way it started: in first place.<\/p>\n<p>The defending champion Wheaton women currently lead the way with a team score of 648, followed by Carthage (492), Illinois Wesleyan (258), Augustana (254), Millikin (208) and North Central (84). Wheaton also leads the way on the men&#39;s side with a team score of 634.5, followed by Carthage (463.5), Illinois Wesleyan (313), Augustana (214.5), Millikin (193) and North Central (84.5).<\/p>\n<p>The evening kicked off with the 200-yard medley relay as Wheaton&#39;s Sloan Skinner, Renee Shear, Cherie Spears and Katherine Burt set a new meet record with a time of 1:48.61, topping the previous time of 1:49.82 set by Wheaton in 2003. On the men&#39;s side, Carthage&#39;s Justin Reeder, Zach Jole, Bryce Davis and Andy Bax won with a time of 1:34.50.<\/p>\n<p>In the women&#39;s 400-yard IM, Wheaton&#39;s Kaitlin Marko won with a time of 4:35.01, which was also a new meet record, topping the old time of 4:35.38 set by Kathy Carroll of Illinois Wesleyan in 2002. Wheaton&#39;s Ethan Cramer won on the men&#39;s side with a time of 4:08.28. Spears was the conference champion in the 100-yard butterfly (59.08), while Davis from Carthage won on the men&#39;s side (50.99).<\/p>\n<p>Burt earned another medal in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.51), while Wheaton&#39;s John Higgins won with a time of 1:42.03. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Jole broke his own conference meet record that he set last season, winning with a time of 56.62, topping his old mark of 56.79. Shear won the conference title on the women&#39;s side, finishing first with a time of 1:08.92.<\/p>\n<p>In the 100-yard backstroke, Augustana&#39;s Ramsey Vens, who made a comeback this season after shattering two vertebrae in her neck over the summer, won the women&#39;s title with a time of 59.89. Wheaton&#39;s Doug Hoffer won the men&#39;s title with a time of 53.44.<\/p>\n<p>The final event on the evening was the 800-yard freestyle relay. Spears, Ashley Matthiesen, Marko and Jenna Sveen from Wheaton won the women&#39;s title with a time of 7:56.19, while on the men&#39;s side, Wheaton&#39;s Ethan Cramer, Ken Mulsoff, Paul Hartman and John Higgins earned the title with a time of 6:58.03.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WHEATON, Illinois, February 9.
