BOSTON, Massachusetts, February 8. THE UMBC men's and women's swimming & diving squads lead after day one of the 2007 America East Swimming & Diving Championships at Boston University's Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n
On the men's side, the Retrievers (100 points) cling to a slim two-point advantage over Stony Brook (98), while Maine is just six points out of the lead with 94 points of its own. Binghamton (79) and host Boston University (78) round out the five-team field.<\/p>\n
The UMBC women (74) also hold a two-point lead over New Hampshire (72). Spots three through six are separated by just 11 points as Boston University (65) is in third, followed by Maine (59), Vermont (56) and Stony Brook (54). Binghamton round out the seven-team field with 48 points.<\/p>\n
Day one of competition featured just five scoring events, as three of the four swimming events broke meet records. <\/p>\n
In the men's 800 freestyle relay, the Retrievers broke their own championship mark with an impressive time of 6:44.18. The UMBC women's 800 freestyle relay foursome also shattered the meet mark by nearly seven seconds as the Retrievers touched in a time of 7:30.14.<\/p>\n
Binghamton also made its way into the record books on the day as the 200 medley relay team quartets' time of 1:31.42 set a meet mark.<\/p>\n
Day two of the four-day event continues on Friday with two sessions of events. The first session of the day gets underway at 10 a.m., followed by the day's second session at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
