MORRISTOWN, New Jersey, February 5. COMPETING at the Morris County Championships, Montville High School's Lauren English set a national high school record in the 100-meter backstroke. Actually, English lowered her own standard in the event, as she touched the wall in 1:01.39. Her previous record was 1:02.17. Most high school competitions are held in yards, but records are also kept for metric races.<\/p>\n
English, who figures to be a key player in the backstroke events at the 2008 Olympic Trials, also won the 50 freestyle with a strong showing of 26.35. She also powered Montville to a pair of relay triumphs, as the school prevailed in the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.
