Breeja Larson entered the Bill Nixon Memorial Pro-Am as one of the headline names, and she lived up to her reputation tonight. Day two was filled with other notable swims, including a few collegiate standouts. But, it was Larson who drew plenty of eyes in Lewisville, Texas tonight as she squared off in the 100-meter breast against fellow National Teamer Laura Sogar.<\/p>\n
Larson\u2019s 1:08.47 was just enough to outlast Sogar\u2019s 1:08.59. Sogar took the race lightly in prelims, finishing the morning session nearly four seconds behind Larson. Tonight, she closed the gap and nearly upset Larson in the race. Jennifer Roessler was a distant third in 1:16.05.<\/p>\n
Tiffany Futscher took the women\u2019s 200-meter fly with a 2:19.97, finishing ahead of second-place finisher Haley Yelle, who clocked a 2:21.74. Rebecca Brandt wound up third in 2:25.79.<\/p>\n
SMU has been represented nicely thus far. Last night, Kirsty McLauchlan won the women\u2019s 400-meter IM, and tonight Tyler Rauth won the men\u2019s 200-meter fly in 2:06.93. Spencer Woodward (2:11.29) edged Andrew Limpert (2:11.91) for second place.<\/p>\n
Kansas Jayhawk Madison Straight was victorious in the women\u2019s 200-meter IM with a 2:21.82, just a second off her personal best. She took out 15-year old upstarts Emma Garfield (2:24.45) and Amanda Armstrong (2:26.02) on her path to winning the event.<\/p>\n
Brendan Feehery (2:10.08) touched out Felix Van Cauwelaert (2:10.22) in a tight battle in the men\u2019s 200-meter IM. Feehery is the reigning Texas state champion in the 200-yard IM. Phillip Willett clocked a 2:11.14 to get third.<\/p>\n
Willett avenged his IM, however, defeat by winning the men\u2019s 100-meter breast in 1:08.03. He barely touched out Feehery, who swam a 1:08.29. Tristen DiSibio posted a 1:08.70 to round out a tight top three.<\/p>\n
Haley Yelle overwhelmed the women\u2019s 400-meter free to win in 4:20.99. Lauren Pitzer silvered with a 4:25.21, while Sara McClendon placed third in 4:28.82.<\/p>\n
In the men\u2019s 400-meter free, William Crowe swam a strong second half to win in 4:12.37. Alexander Zettle (4:13.55) finished second ahead of Duncan Lee, who was neck and neck with Crowe at the halfway point, but wound up third in 4:13.75.<\/p>\n
