WORCESTER, Massachusetts, February 3. THE Fairfield swimming and diving team split their final dual meet of the season at Holy Cross this afternoon as the women won, 128-110, while the men were edged, 124-117. The women finish the season with a 6-6 overall record while the men fall to 1-8 on the year. With the victory on the women's side, Head Coach Bill Farley tied Phil Palumbo for a record 35 career victories.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Drew Kingman (Wilton, Conn.) was a triple winner for the men while senior Jennifer Masi (North Haven, Conn.) was a triple winner for the women.<\/p>\n
Kingman captured the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:26.40, the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:04.39, and ended the day with a victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:20.72.<\/p>\n
Masi won the 50 free with a time of 25.16 seconds and followed that performance with a victory in the 100 free with a time of 55.34 seconds. She was also on the 400 medley relay that posted a winning time of 4:13.32.<\/p>\n
In the diving events, freshman Taylor Stecko (South Windsor, Conn.) posted victories on both boards for the men and qualified for the ECAC Championships. Stecko tallied personal bests of 249.67 in the three-meter and 251.55 in the one-meter. For the women, junior Katharine Yee (Bethesda, Md.) captured both boards, taking the one-meter with a score of 245.25 and the three-meter with a score of 246.07. Yee will accompany Stecko to ECACs, having qualified earlier this season. <\/p>\n
On the men's side, the meet was very tight, coming down to the final event, the 400 yard freestyle relay. Holy Cross had the edge in the end with a time of 3:22.75 while Fairfield came in close behind with a time of 3:24.05.
\nThe Stags had several individual victories on the men's side. Sophomore Sean McGonigle (Philadelphia, Pa.) was victorious in the 100 free with a time of 51.62 seconds, touching out Holy Cross' Rob Acker, who clocked a time of 51.69 seconds. Senior Tom Kozlowski (Farmingville, N.Y.) captured the 50 free with a time of 23.19 seconds.<\/p>\n
Freshman Boris Romanovsky (Marblehead, Mass.) posted a personal best in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:12.39, earning important second-place points in the event.<\/p>\n
In addition to Masi's performance on the women's side, senior Brittany Hunter (Mt. Kisco, N.Y.) captured two individual events, winning the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:14.66 and the 500 free with a time of 5:29.90.<\/p>\n
Also recording an individual victory was sophomore Kaitlyn Buckheit (Exton, Pa.), who won the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:02.68. Buckheit also finished second in the 200 free with a personal best of 2:07.49.<\/p>\n
Fairfield will participate in the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Swimming & Diving Championships beginning February 8 at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
