Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>Cochrane opened up the night with a meet-record 7:52.51 in the men&#8217;s 800-meter free. \u00a0That swim lowered the 7:58.32 set by <strong>Gergo Kiss<\/strong> from 2011, and moved Cochrane to sixth in the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stephen Milne<\/strong> placed second in 7:56.12, while <strong>Myles Brown<\/strong> snared third in 7:58.35.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Georgia Davies<\/strong> hit the wall in 27.97 to win the women&#8217;s 50-meter back. \u00a0That swim is just a bit off her Canet stop time of 27.87 that ranks her fifth in the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mie Nielsen<\/strong> took second tonight in 28.08, while <strong>Lauren Quigley<\/strong> wound up third in 28.40.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong>, who already leads the world with a 26.88 from the British University Championships, posted a meet-record 27.25 in the men&#8217;s 50-meter breast. \u00a0That effort wiped out the 27.48 set by <strong>Andrei Nikolaev<\/strong> last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cameron van der Burgh<\/strong> finished second in 27.29, just off Peaty&#8217;s pace and van der Burgh&#8217;s third-ranked season best of 27.17. \u00a0<strong>Sami Aaltomaa<\/strong> earned third in 27.67.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jeanette Ottesen<\/strong> cranked out a 25.51 to win the women&#8217;s 50-meter fly. \u00a0That swim is just off her second-ranked season best of 25.48 from the Danish Open.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Inge Dekker<\/strong> took second in 25.72 with <strong>Fran Halsall<\/strong> placing third in 26.03. \u00a0Dekker moved to third in the world with her swim, while Halsall grabbed eighth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kosuke Hagino<\/strong>, the top-ranked swimmer in the 400 IM with a 4:08.54 from Japanese Nationals, put up a 4:11.78 to win the event here in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p><strong>David Verraszto<\/strong> touched second in 4:13.68, off his third-ranked 4:11.52 from the Canet stop. \u00a0<strong>Jacob Heidtmann<\/strong> took third in 4:18.21.<\/p>\n<p>Another top-ranked swimmer, <strong>Femke Heemskerk<\/strong>, won the women&#8217;s 100-meter free in a meet-record 53.25. \u00a0That time cleared <strong>Libby Trickett&#8217;s<\/strong> 53.87 from 2009, but fell short of Heemskerk&#8217;s world-leading 52.69 from the Eindhoven Swim Cup.<\/p>\n<p>Teammate <strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> turned in a second-place time of 53.84 with <strong>Pernille Blume<\/strong> placing third in 54.28.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryosuke Irie<\/strong> hit the wall in 53.23 for the men&#8217;s 100-meter back win. \u00a0That&#8217;s a bit off his second-ranked season best of 52.99 from Japanese Nationals.<\/p>\n<p>He beat the top-ranked swimmer in the world, <strong>Chris Walker-Hebborn<\/strong> (52.88 at British Nationals), who took second tonight in 54.26. \u00a0<strong>Masaki Kaneko<\/strong> clinched third in 54.60.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rikke Moller Pedersen<\/strong> took home the women&#8217;s 100-meter breast in a time of 1:07.07. \u00a0That&#8217;s just off her seventh-ranked season best of 1:07.01.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kanako Watanabe<\/strong>, the third-ranked swimmer in the world with a 1:06.45, took second in 1:07.53. \u00a0<strong>Jenna Laukkanen<\/strong> snared third in 1:07.82.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katsumi Nakamura<\/strong> claimed the men&#8217;s 50-meter free title in 22.30. <strong>\u00a0Konrad Czerniak<\/strong> placed a close second in 22.34 with <strong>Ben Proud<\/strong> earning third in 22.40.<\/p>\n<p>A day after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-sizzles-with-world-best-in-400-im-in-barcelona\/\" target=\"_blank\">posting a top-ranked 400 IM<\/a>, <strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> cruised to victory in the women&#8217;s 200-meter back with a 2:08.41. \u00a0That&#8217;s well off her second-ranked 2:06.81 from the Golden Tour, but more than enough for the win tonight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hilary Caldwell<\/strong> finished second with a time of 2:09.36 to move to 10th in the world rankings. <strong>\u00a0Elizabeth Simmonds<\/strong>, sixth in the world with a 2:08.32, took third in 2:10.14.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marco Koch<\/strong> delivered a 2:09.35 to win the men&#8217;s 200-meter breaststroke title. \u00a0That&#8217;s just a second off his third-ranked 2:08.57 from the Canet stop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yasuhiro Koseki<\/strong>, the top-ranked swimmer in the world with a 2:07.77, took second in 2:10.60. \u00a0<strong>Michael Jamieson<\/strong> placed third overall in 2:11.42.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Natsumi Hoshi<\/strong> clocked a meet record in the women&#8217;s 200-meter fly with a time of 2:07.58. That time cleared the 2:07.76 she set way back in 2008, but came up short of her fourth-ranked 2:06.66 from Japanese Nationals this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judit Ignacio Sorribes<\/strong> took second in 2:09.59 with <strong>Aimee Willmott<\/strong> earning third in 2:11.00.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Konrad Czerniak<\/strong> turned in a 52.36 to win the men&#8217;s 100-meter fly. \u00a0That&#8217;s off his top-ranked 51.37, but plenty fast for the victory today.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Takeshi Matsuda<\/strong> finished second in 52.57 with <strong>Takuro Fujii<\/strong> claiming third in 52.69.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Siobhan Marie O&#8217;Connor<\/strong> almost lowered her second-ranked season best of 2:09.51 with a 2:09.56 to win the 200-meter IM. That time beat her meet record of 2:09.63 from last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Melanie Margalis<\/strong> touched second in 2:10.85, just off her fourth-ranked 2:10.57, while Hosszu placed third in 2:12.23.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sebastiaan Verschuren<\/strong> claimed the men&#8217;s 200-meter free in a time of 1:47.52, while <strong>Chad le Clos<\/strong> took second in 1:47.75. \u00a0<strong>James Guy<\/strong> rounded out the top three in 1:48.01.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jazmin Carlin<\/strong> closed out the night with a time of 4:06.97 in the women&#8217;s 400-meter free. <strong>Dong Fuwei<\/strong> took second in 4:09.77 with <strong>Hannah Miley<\/strong> snaring third in 4:10.18.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-mare-nostrum-barcelona-day-two-day-2\/international-elite\/2015\/June\/10\" target=\"_blank\">2015 Mare Nostrum Barcelona, Day Two &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ryan Cochrane led off a night full of meet records at the Mare Nostrum stop in Barcelona.
