{"id":136100,"date":"2015-06-11T06:56:55","date_gmt":"2015-06-11T13:56:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=136100"},"modified":"2015-06-11T07:37:01","modified_gmt":"2015-06-11T14:37:01","slug":"joseph-schooling-completes-epic-9-gold-spree-at-sea-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/joseph-schooling-completes-epic-9-gold-spree-at-sea-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Joseph Schooling Completes Epic 9 Gold Spree at SEA Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Joseph Schooling<\/strong> completed an epic nine-gold winning spree at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games with a win in the men&#8217;s 400-meter medley relay on the final night.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zheng Wen Quah<\/strong> (54.81), <strong>Lionel Khoo<\/strong> (1:02.33), Schooling (51.50) and <strong>Clement Lim<\/strong> (49.61) took down the Games record with a 3:38.25 for the win. \u00a0The swim blasted the previous Singapore mark of 3:43.62 set in 2013 here at the SEA Games, while also downing Indonesia&#8217;s Games mark of 3:41.35 from 2011.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schooling&#8217;s Medal Count<\/strong><\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<p>Vietnam&#8217;s <strong>Vien Nguyen<\/strong> closed out an epic meet on the women&#8217;s side with eight golds a silver and a bronze by winning the women&#8217;s 200-meter breast with a Vietnamese record.<\/p>\n<p>Nguyen won in 2:31.16, downing the previous national mark of 2:33.09 set by <strong>Thi Hue Pham<\/strong> in 2010. Thailand&#8217;s <strong>Phiangkhwan Pawapotako<\/strong> (2:31.51) and Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Samantha Yeo<\/strong> (2:35.60) placed second and third.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nguyen&#8217;s Medal Count<\/strong><\/p>\n[table \u201c\u201d not found \/]<br \/>\n\n<p>Malaysia&#8217;s <strong>Welson Sim<\/strong> posted a Games-record 3:53.97 to win the men&#8217;s 400-meter free. \u00a0That swim cleared the 3:53.99 set by <strong>Henry Bego<\/strong> back in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>Philippines&#8217; <strong>Jessie Lacuna<\/strong> took second in 3:55.34 with Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Sheng Jun Pang<\/strong> earning third in 3:57.60.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Zheng Wen Quah<\/strong> downed his national mark with a Games-record time of 25.27 in the men&#8217;s 50-meter back. \u00a0That swim beat <strong>Gede Sudartawa&#8217;s<\/strong> 2011 meet record of 25.62, and lowered Quah&#8217;s Singapore mark of 25.69 from the 2015 Singapore Age Group Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Sudartawa took second tonight in 25.34 with Thailand&#8217;s <strong>Kasipat Chograthin<\/strong> placing third in 25.78.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Xiang Qi Lim<\/strong> (25.59) and <strong>Ting Wen Quah<\/strong> (25.60) went 1-2 in the women&#8217;s 50-meter free with both surpassing <strong>Lim&#8217;s<\/strong> Games-record 25.69 from 2013. \u00a0Philippines&#8217; <strong>Jasmine Alkhadi<\/strong> finished third in 25.79.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia&#8217;s <strong>Indra Gunawan<\/strong> topped the men&#8217;s 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 28.27, while Philippines&#8217; <strong>Joshua Hall<\/strong> placed second in 28.32. \u00a0Malaysia&#8217;s <strong>Fukang Wong<\/strong> snared third in 28.67.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore&#8217;s <strong>Tao Li<\/strong> claimed the women&#8217;s 100-meter fly in 59.79, while Quah posted a second-place time of 1:00.30. \u00a0Alkhaldi snared third overall in 1:01.00.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2015-southeast-asian-games-day-six-day-6\/international-elite\/2015\/June\/6\" target=\"_blank\">2015 Southeast Asian Games, Day Six &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Singapore&#8217;s Joseph Schooling completed an epic nine-gold winning spree at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games with a win in the men&#8217;s 400-meter medley relay on the final night.
